He was married to Creator/AugustaDabney and Kate Crane and had five children, three with Dabney and two with Crane. His sister was Creator/MaryMcCarthy and distant cousins with UsefulNotes/EugeneMcCarthy.

[=McCarthy=] died in 2010 at the age of 96 from pneumonia.
