In 2024, following the announcement of his fourth film ''Film/{{Civil War|2024}}'', Garland stated his intention to leave directing behind to focus exclusively on writing (with Creator/DannyBoyle's upcoming ''28 Years Later'' being his next project). As such, ''Civil War'' will serve as his final directorial effort.

Garland started his career in TheNineties with the publication of his first novel, ''Literature/TheBeach''.
