That is not what an Ascended Extra is. You never meet him again after this section.

''Trilogy'' introduces the original lineup from the ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' series to the horrors of Hitler's undead horde. As ''Trilogy'' lacked voiced dialogues, they are for all intents and purposes identical. For the tropes found in their source material, see [[Characters/Left4Dead here]] and [[Characters/Left4Dead2 here]].

* MovesetClone: The survivors are merely a model swap of ''Trilogy's'' protagonists, and will replace them in cutscenes where applicable, with Nick and Bill replacing Karl and Beth, Zoey and Rochelle replacing Efram and Marie, Francis and Coach replacing Boris and Anya, and Louis and Ellis replacing Hermann and Hanna, respectively.

An American military operative working for the Office of Strategic Services. Originally sent behind enemy lines for most of the war, he found himself stranded in hostile territory on the outskirts of Berlin when Hitler's zombie army was released. * AlternateSelf: He is an alternate version of the Karl Fairburne seen in ''VideoGame/SniperEliteV2'', ''VideoGame/SniperEliteIII'', and ''VideoGame/SniperElite4''. Unlike that version of himself, this one is clean-shaven, never speaks (until ''Dead War''), and is shown to have bandages on his head.
* AmericaSavesTheDay: The game's minimalist story portrays him as the closest thing to a "main character", including giving him a key role in ''Zombie Army Trilogy'''s ending cutscene -- though he does share this with Boris Medvedev.
* BadassBaritone: In every game, except ''Zombie Army Trilogy''.
* ColdSniper: Noted for being cool, aloof and a true "lone wolf" type.
* TheHero
* WeaponOfChoice: The Springfield M1903.

!!Boris Medvedev
A hulking and pragmatic veteran of the Red Army, Boris has narrowly avoided charges of insubordination on multiple occasions. Claiming to have seen and survived worse than the ZombieApocalypse, he is willing to put aside his political loyalties for the sake of surviving, even if it means working with Germans.

* BadassBandolier
* TheBigGuy
* HuskyRusskie: He's a big, strong, stoic Russian guy.
* MilitaryMaverick: Boris never took well to the military hierarchy, which given it hardly exists anymore suits him just fine.
* WeaponOfChoice: The [=PPSh=]-41.
* YouALLLookFamiliar: Shares his character model with the Russian Elite infantry from V2.

!!Dr. Efram Schweiger
A German academic researcher; a pacifist who strove to avoid conscription by lending his skills to the Nazi researchers investigating the occult. To his horrified disbelief, he actually unlocked real magic, ultimately paving the way for "Plan Z". With the horrors of his research all around him, Dr. Schweiger's desperation to survive is matched only by his desperation to atone.

Zombie horde]]'''

* AlternateSelf: He is an alternate version of the Schweiger who appears in ''VideoGame/SniperEliteV2''. Instead of attempting to defect from the Nazis to the Western Allies, here he ends up fighting the zombie horde alongside Karl Fairburne in search of a way to stop the undead.
* AscendedExtra: He had a minor role in ''V2'', as a scientist who helped with the V2 rocket programme.
* TheAtoner: He was an integral part in the research that made Plan Z possible, and he deeply wants to atone for that. Doesn't come up during gameplay due to the limits of the story mechanics, however. It does show up more overtly in his appearance in ''Dead War'', since he actually speaks there, [[spoiler: and it ultimately drives him to perform a HeroicSacrifice in order to finally end Hitler and with it the Dead War.]]
* BadassBookworm: Has all the same skills as his trained fighter squadmates despite being merely a former scientist.
* DemotedToExtra: He's back to being a supporting character in ''Dead War'', [[spoiler:and he doesn't live to see the end of the Dead War.]]
* HollywoodAtheist: Averted. Having seen first hand that there is a Hell and zombies can be animated by BlackMagic, Dr. Schweiger is no longer as skeptical as he was.
* NiceHat: His fedora.
* TheSmartGuy: Ends up saving the group at various points of the game thanks to his knowledge of what the collected relics can do.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In the main continuity he dies from wounds during the Battle of Berlin. Here, he manages to survive the NaziZombies and lives to tell the tale. [[spoiler:For a while, at least; in ''Dead War'', in order for the protagonists to get to Rome and thus Hitler in time, he sacrifices himself to sustain the portal that takes them there.]]
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:We are never sure if he actually died at the end of Hell Base or not. Although he was left behind in the Thule dimension, and the activation of the portal back to Rome left him severely wounded, Schweiger was still alive when the protagonists last saw him.]]
* ViolenceReallyIsTheAnswer: In the face of being eaten alive by the demonic undead, Dr. Schweiger has forsaken pacifism in the interest of survival.
* WeaponOfChoice: The [[HandCannon Webley Mk. IV.]]

!!Hermann Wolff
An apolitical captain in the Wehrmacht, Hermann Wolff had never bought into many of Hitler's more insane ideas, but loyally followed orders for the sake of protecting his family. With Hitler's insanity now threatening the lives of every human on earth, he can no longer feign even that level of loyalty to the mad Fuhrer.

With Hitler's insanity now threatening the lives of every human on earth, he can no longer feign even that level of loyalty to the mad Fuhrer.
Survivor Brigade.

* EnemyMine: Given he's Wehrmacht and the Survivor Brigade includes an American OSS operative, two Red Army soldiers, a French Resistance fighter, and a German woman turned Nazi hunter after her family was executed.
* HeelFaceTurn: It's safe to say that considering what happens in the trilogy, he's now turned his back on Hitler for good.
* NoodleIncident: What happened to his family after Plan Z was launched.
* PunchClockVillain
* TokenHeroicOrc: He's an actual member of the Nazi Army, but is strictly portrayed as a decent man who never believed the Nazi's racist creed and simply sought to protect his family.
* WeaponOfChoice: The MP-40.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: His fate after the ''Zombie Army Trilogy'' is unknown, although the "Undercover" costume for Karl Fairburne does kind of look like him.
* YouALLLookFamiliar: Shares his character model with the generic German Officers in V2.
* InvulnerableKnuckles: Averted in the final cutscene. Hermann gets spooked by a zombie while escaping and comically resorts to punching it right in the face. Immediately afterward he is shown [[OwMyBodyPart shaking his hand in slight pain]] while continuing to flee.

!!Beth Coleman
A female American portrait artist who found herself caught up in the catastrophe of Plan Z, Beth Coleman was fortunate that her keen eye and steady hand proved to be as applicable to slinging lead as it was to slinging paint.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Officially has no previous combat experience, but when the dead started trying to devour the living, she discovered she was quite handy with a gun.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Karl, even down to dressing like him.
* NoodleIncident: Just what an American civilian was doing in Germany during the invasion of Berlin is never explained.
* WeaponOfChoice: In cutscenes: the M1903. In promotional images: a Kar98k without a sniper scope.

!!Marie Chevalier
A female French resistance fighter who was instrumental in key sabotage missions that facilitated the Allies' advance after the Normandy Invasion. Having traveled to Berlin on a personal mission to assassinate the Fuhrer, she found herself forced to team up to survive after the dead rose and began to devour the living.
----
* ActionGirl: Marie was a tough, smart and resourceful resistance fighter even before the zombie apocalypse.
* AscendedExtra: She features prominently in preview screenshots for the ''ZAT'' complete game, replacing Dr. Schweiger. She's also one of the three ''ZAT'' player characters who returns in ''Dead War''.
* BeautyMark: Has one above her lip.
* CallToAgriculture: She dreams of owning a vineyard once the war is done.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Efram, albeit only in that she replaces him in cutscenes and wears a similar outfit. Backstory-wise they are nothing alike.
* LaResistance: Previously she was part of the French Resistance against the Nazi occupation, and then ended up as part of the Human Resistance against the Nazi undead hordes.
* NiceHat: Wears a beret. She even keeps it in ''Dead War''.
* NoodleIncident: Either Marie somehow knows what the various artifacts are needed for (due to her replacing Efram in cutscenes) or she's managed to [[IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing save the group various times through sheer luck]].
* WeaponOfChoice: In cutscenes she often has a Webley Mk. IV, meanwhile she is prominently shown wielding Sub Machine Guns in promotional images (particularly the BÅ‚yskawica and MP40).

!!Anya Bochkareva
Formerly a University student, this amateur sharpshooter gave up her studies and signed up for the Red Army when Hitler ordered the invasion of her homeland of Russia. Taken on as a sniper, she proved surprisingly formidable, one of the traits that has kept her alive after the retaliation of Plan Z.
----
* ActionGirl: Before the invasion of Russia, she was a university student who practiced rifle shooting as a hobby. She promptly quit school and joined the army as a sniper.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Boris.

!!Hanna Schulz
A German freedom fighter who was roused to fight against Hitler's tyranny after one of his officers executed her husband and children. Having succeeded at murdering the man who pulled the trigger, her quest for vengeance led her to continue striking against Hitler's officers, until the Nazi dead rose from their graves.
----
* ActionMom: Went from a happy housewife and mother to a murderous guerrilla fighter to a zombie-slaying badass.
* CreepySouvenir: The Nazi army officer uniform she wears is somewhere between this and a TragicKeepsake; it belonged to the man who executed her family, and who was her first kill.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Hermann.
* MamaBear: Having been an orphan, her fierce loyalty to her family is one of her defining traits, especially since her family was killed.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Her entire motivation for killing Nazis before the war was because they murdered her family. When they rose from their graves, that was just a chance to kill them all over again.
* WeaponOfChoice: The Blyskawica.

!!Jun
A Chinese ambassador's attache who was in Moscow when Plan Z was activated. She picked up a gun and fought her way out of the infested territories, hooking up with the survivors to become an active agent during the events of ''Dead War''.
----
* AffirmativeActionLegacy: She's a Chinese woman who has replaced Herman Wolff and Dr. Efram Schweiger as the "official" player character selection, thus adding both women and non-Caucasians to a default party that had originally been made up of four white men.
* BadassBureaucrat: She used to be arm-candy for a Chinese ambassador. When the ZombieApocalypse reached Moscow, she fought her way out out successfully, and then went on to join the Resistance to try and cull the population of Husks once Hitler was defeated.

!!Shola
Daughter of a wealthy Nigerian barrister, Shola had already volunteered in a munitions factory when Plan Z was activated. During the interim, she transferred to the Resistance as a military engineer, and became a participant in the ''Dead War''.
----
* ActionSurvivor: She was a barrister's daughter, and then a munitions factory worker. Despite this, when the ZombieApocalypse came out, she voluntarily transferred to the front lines so she could do her part to better winnow the army of the dead.
* AffirmativeActionLegacy: She's an African woman who has replaced Herman Wolff and Dr. Efram Schweiger as the "official" player character selection, thus adding both women and non-Caucasians to a default party that had originally been made up of four white men.

!NPCS
!!UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler
The Leader of UsefulNotes/NaziGermany. Deliberately unleashes the ZombieApocalypse upon his own country as a desperate contingency plan as the Allies assault Berlin.
----
* AxCrazy: As we see from the first cutscene of the trilogy, he’s on the edge of a very bad VillainousBreakdown. He kills one of his men for daring to suggest surrender, kills another offscreen and bashes his last subordinate’s head in with a piece of the Sagamarta Relic before the zombies clamouring outside his office break in and savage him to death. After he comes back from his fatal mauling, this goes into overdrive and he goes completely insane, now desiring to unleash HellOnEarth in the name of his own megalomania and relishing at the thought of the mass destruction that it entails.
* BigBad: All the demonic carnage you have to fight through in the ruins of post-apocalyptic Germany was unleashed by him in order to rout the Allies. After his resurrection he goes full throttle and is out to deliberately open the {{Hell}}mouth and doom all of humanity in the name of the Reich.
* BadBoss: As his three underlings find out the hard way, Hitler is a very easy man to cross and when he does get angry, someone dies.
* CameBackWrong: After his death, his corpse is reanimated along with much of the rest of Germany, although unlike the others he retains his intelligence, but has turned him into a complete lunatic.
* CameBackStrong: After coming back and stealing the Book Of Souls, he uses it to give himself NighInvulnerability and telekinetic powers. The latter comes in useful after Karl takes a shot at him, stopping the bullet in mid-air before it hits home.
* {{Determinator}}: Horrific bastard he may be, but despite being killed twice he still desires to conquer the world.
* DraggedOffToHell: Hitler’s [[spoiler:apparent]] final end. After the final battle with his giant avatar, he confronts you personally, only to be kicked down and tossed into the {{Hellgate}}, damning him to an eternity in Hell forever.
* ItCanThink: Hitler inexplicably retains his sapience after coming back from the dead.
* KarmicDeath: His desire to activate Plan Z in a final desperate ploy to win the war gets him EatenAlive inside his own office, then when he comes back and tries to cause HellOnEarth, he gets thrown into his own {{Hellgate}} after he’s defeated.
* KilledOffscreen: His first [[EatenAlive undeniably sticky end]] from being flash-mobbed by a pack of zombies inside the Fuhrerbunker happens offscreen after he screams in terror as they break in.
* NighInvulnerable: As you see in the PostFinalBoss fight, Hitler confronts you personally and is completely invulnerable to harm, requiring him to be knocked down and tossed directly into {{Hell}} itself to finish him. [[FateWorseThanDeath He’s likely regretting such a thing deeply now after that, regardless if he survived or not.]]
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:Saying that is a bit much, considering he was already undead beforehand, but getting thrown into the Hellmouth turns out to not have been permanent, as he was conjured back to Earth by a Nazi hell-cult, thus kicking off the events of ''Dead War''.]]
* OmnicidalManiac: After coming back from the dead, he’s now got it in mind to evoke HellOnEarth upon the entire world. Considering that by the time the protagonists set out to stop his EvilPlan 99% of the population of Berlin ''at the very least'' is either dead or [[ZombieApocalypse worse]], he more than definitely counts, that’s for sure.
* TooDumbToLive: Hitler activated Plan Z as a final desperate act to repel the Allies from Germany and turn the tides of the war, but while that part of the plan worked Hitler quickly finds himself on the business end of EvilIsNotAToy as a horde of crazed corpses encroach upon his bunker and kill him gruesomely. Even after coming back, his stupidity hasn’t waned a single bit, as he’s still dabbling in the Occult and now seeking to unleash the wrath of the Hellmouth upon humanity. This gets him a [[DraggedOffToHell one-way trip]] to an eternal FateWorseThanDeath for his megalomaniacal foolishness. [[spoiler:Or not. It just empowers him again, allowing him to take command of his undead army once again...and then he loses again. And is disintegrated by the Sagamata, more than likely ''finally'' killing the Furher.]]

!!Hox
A Red Army soldier who appears in the first episode of Chapter 3 among the rest of the Survivor Brigade.

foolishness. [[spoiler:Or not. It just empowers him again, allowing him to take command of his undead army once again...and then he loses again. And is disintegrated by the Sagamata, more than likely ''finally'' killing the Furher.

Added Hox and added more details to some of the Playable characters

to:

* YouALLLookFamiliar: Shares his character model with the Russian Elite infantry from V2.

* TheSmartGuy

to:

* TheSmartGuyTheSmartGuy: Ends up saving the group at various points of the game thanks to his knowledge of what the collected relics can do.

to:

* YouALLLookFamiliar: Shares his character model with the generic German Officers in V2.
* InvulnerableKnuckles: Averted in the final cutscene. Hermann gets spooked by a zombie while escaping and comically resorts to punching it right in the face. Immediately afterward he is shown [[OwMyBodyPart shaking his hand in slight pain]] while continuing to flee.

to:

* WeaponOfChoice: In cutscenes: the M1903. In promotional images: a Kar98k without a sniper scope.

* DistaffCounterpart: To Efram.

to:

* DistaffCounterpart: To Efram.Efram, albeit only in that she replaces him in cutscenes and wears a similar outfit. Backstory-wise they are nothing alike.

to:

* WeaponOfChoice: In cutscenes she often has a Webley Mk. IV, meanwhile she is prominently shown wielding Sub Machine Guns in promotional images (particularly the BÅ‚yskawica and MP40).
* BeautyMark: Has one above her lip.
* NoodleIncident: Either Marie somehow knows what the various artifacts are needed for (due to her replacing Efram in cutscenes) or she's managed to [[IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing save the group various times through sheer luck]].
* LaResistance: Previously she was part of the French Resistance against the Nazi occupation, and then ended up as part of the Human Resistance against the Nazi undead hordes.

!Hox
A Red Army soldier who appears in the first episode of Chapter 3 among the rest of the Survivor Brigade.
----
* ICallItVera: Hox owns a captured MP-44 which he lost before taking shelter in the Brigade's bar hideout. Coincidentally he refers to "her" as his "sweet Vera".
* FetchQuest: He asks the player(s) to find and bring back Vera. If they do so he'll show up to help them in the first room of hospital.
* YouALLLookFamiliar: Shares his character model with other generic Red Army soldiers. In fact the other two Russians in the bar look identical to him.
* WeaponOfChoice: Ironically enough in-spite of him showing affection for Vera, he actually carries an MP-40 while resting in the bar and later uses it in combat if the player returned Vera to him.
* AscendedExtra: Is one of the few named human survivors, and is also one of the few survivors who doesn't die during the events of the game.

!Adolf Hitler
The Leader of Nazi Germany.
* CameBackWrong: After his death, his corpse is reanimated along with the rest of much of Germany, although unlike the others he retains his intelligence, but has turned him into a complete lunatic.
* CameBackStrong: After coming back and stealing the Book Of Souls, he uses it to give himself NighInvulnerability and telekinetic powers. The latter comes in useful after Karl takes a shot at him, stopping the bullet in mid-air before it hits home.
* DraggedOffToHell: Hitler’s final end.
NighInvulnerable: As you see in the PostFinalBoss fight, Hitler confronts you personally and is completely invulnerable to harm, requiring him to be knocked down and tossed directly into {{Hell}} itself to finish him. [[FateWorseThanDeath He’s likely regretting such a thing deeply now after that, regardless if he survived or not.]]

!Karl Fairburne
An American military operative working for the Office of Strategic Services. Originally sent behind enemy lines for most of the war, he found himself stranded in hostile territory on the outskirts of Berlin when Hitler's zombie army was released. Although normally a "lone wolf", if the alternative was being eaten alive by undead Nazis, he was glad to team up with the other survivors.
----
* AmericaSavesTheDay: The game's minimalist story portrays him as the closest thing to a "main character", including giving him a key role in the series finale cutscene -- though he does share this with Boris Medvedev.
* ColdSniper: Noted for being cool, aloof and a true "lone wolf" type.

!Boris Medvedev
A hulking and pragmatic veteran of the Red Army, Boris has narrowly avoided charges of insubordination on multiple occasions. Claiming to have seen and survived worse than the ZombieApocalypse, he is willing to put aside his political loyalties for the sake of surviving, even if it means working with Germans.
----
* HuskyRusskie: He's a big, strong, stoic Russian guy.

!Dr.
----
* TheAtoner: He was an integral part in the research that made Plan Z possible, and he deeply wants to atone for that. Doesn't come up during gameplay due to the limits of the story mechanics, however.
* HollywoodAtheist: Averted. Having seen first hand that there is a Hell and zombies can be animated by BlackMagic, Dr. Schweiger is no longer as skeptical as he was.
* ViolenceReallyIsTheAnswer: In the face of being eaten alive by the demonic undead, Dr. Schweiger has forsaken pacifism in the interest of survival.

!Hermann Wolff
An apolitical captain in the Wehrmacht, Hermann Wolff had never bought into many of Hitler's more insane ideas, but loyally followed orders for the sake of protecting his family. With Hitler's insanity now threatening the lives of every human on earth, he can no longer feign even that level of loyalty to the mad Fuhrer.
----
* NoodleIncident: What happened to his family after Plan Z was launched
* TokenHeroicOrc: He's an actual member of the Nazi Army, but is strictly portrayed as a decent man who never believed the Nazi's racist creed and simply sought to protect his family.

!Beth Coleman
A female American portrait artist who found herself caught up in the catastrophe of Plan Z, Beth Coleman was fortunate that her keen eye and steady hand proved to be as applicable to slinging lead as it was to slinging paint.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Officially has no previous combat experience, but when the dead started trying to devour the living, she discovered she was quite handy with a gun.
* NoodleIncident: Just what an American civilian was doing in Germany during the invasion of Berlin is never explained.

!Marie Chevalier
A female French resistance fighter who was instrumental in key sabotage missions that facilitated the Allies' advance after the Normandy Invasion. Having traveled to Berlin on a personal mission to assassinate the Fuhrer, she found herself forced to team up to survive after the dead rose and began to devour the living.
----
* ActionGirl: She was a skilled resistance fighter even before the zombies appeared.
* CallToAgriculture: She dreams of owning a vineyard once the war is done.

!Anya Bochkareva
Formerly a University student, this amateur sharpshooter gave up her studies and signed up for the Red Army when Hitler ordered the invasion of her homeland of Russia. Taken on as a sniper, she proved surprisingly formidable, one of the traits that has kept her alive after the retaliation of Plan Z.
----
* ActionGirl: Before the invasion of Russia, she was a university student who practiced rifle shooting as a hobby. She promptly quit school and joined the army as a sniper.

!Hanna Schulz
