A nine-year old girl and the main protagonist. She is off to visit her grandmother when she gets swept into the chaos of the demon invasion, and is rescued by Ains. She is tasked by her new mentor to find three items she needs.

* BloodKnight: He's outright described in the Character file as a "battle maniac" who "enjoys fighting the strong in particularly hazardous terrain", and in-game is very keen to fight Dakt to the death.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He is infamous for killing his companions in any mission they take so he can get at their loot. In the game itself, he goes with an army of mercenaries to take care of some wolves in the forest, then kills almost all of them.

* TeamKiller: He is infamous for killing his fellow mercenaries to steal their loot. In the actual game, he joins a large party of mercenaries on a mission to fight off wolves attacking the forest, and eventually goes on yet another killing spree- by the end, only a few survivors are left.

!!Antagonists

[[folder:Rahd, the Black Demon-God]]
A powerful demon leader and the antagonist of EINS. It was driven out of the underworld by the Seven Emperors and wants to kill them all as revenge for the humiliation it suffered. It gained control of the Tenebris and some of its power, but wants the rest of it, and is chasing after Eins to that end.

* TheBadGuyWins: In the Bad End, [[spoiler:it kills Eins and, despite nearly having been defeated, is presumably able to recover and continue its plot to destroy Uldra]].
* BigBad: It is the leader of the demons assaulting the Uldra continent and aims to capture Eins as part of its plan to destroy the continent and take revenge on the Seven Emperors for defeating it prior.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: The final battle appears to be between it and the duo of Ains and Eins, but afterwards [[spoiler:Rhavos]] shows up and becomes the actual final boss while [[spoiler:the Tenebris]] takes care of the Demon-God.
* ILied: It made a deal with [[spoiler:Eins' Mother]] to let Eins live a normal life in exchange for being allowed to [[spoiler:extract the Forbidden Book <Human> from her]]. Once it finally gets around to doing this, it immediately goes back on the deal by trying to kill Eins while mentally mocking the deal maker for thinking it would actually follow through on it.
* ItAmusedMe: When the Tenebris asks why it continues to pursue Eins even after [[spoiler:getting the Forbidden Book from ber]] and thus having no more use for her, it says that it is doing so for fun.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Its name is Rahd, which can be revealed as early as after the tutorial battle, but everyone calls it the Black Demon-God.
* MaouTheDemonKing: A traditional BigBad example. It leads the demon army in attacking the Uldra continent and wants to capture Eins for its evil plans. It also uses the power of the Tenebris to spread negative energy that causes the wolves of the region to go berserk.
* NearVillainVictory: In the non-bad ends, [[spoiler:it successfully kidnaps Eins, extracts the Forbidden Book <Human> from her, and uses its power to (seemingly) kill Ains, but just when it looks like there is no hope, the Tenebris breaks free from its control and takes it down, Ains comes back and helps Eins escape, and Dakt finishes off the weakened Demon-God for good]].
* NoBiologicalSex: Suggested, by the fact that it is consistently referred to with "it" and the "singular they".
* RedEyesTakeWarning: This evil demon god has two bright red eyes to go with its pitch-black body.
* VillainousBreakdown: When [[spoiler:the Tenebris]] starts fighting back and wounding it, it starts freaking out. Then, in the non-Bad endings, it pulls a ThisCannotBe when [[spoiler:Dakt]] saves Eins and kills it for good.
* WarmupBoss: It serves as the first boss in the prologue section.

[[folder:The Red-Haired Man]]
A mysterious mercenary infamous for killing his companions and several innocents. He also answered the call to exterminate the wolves, but is more preoccupied with robbing the other mercenaries involved.

* ArcVillain: He becomes the antagonist of the Forest section of the game when he starts killing the other mercenaries and tries to go after Dakt and Eins as well.
* BloodKnight: He's outright described in the Character file as a "battle maniac" who "enjoys fighting the strong in particularly hazardous terrain", and in-game is very keen to fight Dakt to the death.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He is infamous for killing his companions in any mission they take so he can get at their loot. In the game itself, he goes with an army of mercenaries to take care of some wolves in the forest, then kills almost all of them.
* ComedicLolicon: In one of the AnimatedActors bonus scenarios, he is depicted as breaking character in order to lust over Eins and try to take her home with him. It's played for very BlackComedy and emphasizes how awful he is.
* ClimaxBoss: His fight in the Forest is clearly not the final battle, but it's an epic clash between two powerful mercenaries with lots of banter and events. The outcome of the fight also determines the ending.
* TheDreaded: He is infamous for how many mercenaries and companions he's killed.
* KarmaHoudini: By the end of the game, either he has succeed in killing Dakt, or she spares him after defeating him.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: The character of the Red-Haired Man is a psychotic mercenary who kills other mercenaries to steal their stuff. In one of the AnimatedActors bonus scenarios, his actor is a nice man who tries to help Eins' actress when she forgets her lines, and gives her words of encouragement when she fails.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Whatever his actual name is, he's only known as the Red-Haired Man or some variant.
* OpenEndedBossBattle: You have to make it to the end and pick the correct options to advance, but he can still end up killing Dakt if she doesn't have [[spoiler:the Survival Knife]], which leads to the Bad End.
* SlasherSmile: Frequently whips these out, usually when he is either about to betray and kill someone or thinking about betraying and killing someone.
* TeamKiller: He is infamous for killing his fellow mercenaries to steal their loot. In the actual game, he joins a large party of mercenaries on a mission to fight off wolves attacking the forest, and eventually goes on yet another killing spree- by the end, only a few survivors are left.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: In the Bad End, him successfully killing Dakt leads to [[spoiler:her not being around to save Eins from the Black Demon-God and being killed]], allowing the Black Demon-God to accomplish his plan and presumably bringing about the destruction of the continent.
* WakeUpCallBoss: His first battle atop the Demon Lord's Tower in -Book- marks the moment where the boss battles stop going easy on the player. He starts off fighting alongside his party and is fairly easy, but when he is down to half-health, he pulls out a series of hard-hitting attacks and is more evasive. This and his even harder second fight a little afterwards teach the player to use everything in their disposal, which you will need for the later bosses that also have more powerful attacks and gimmicks.

The entity that the Black Demon-God has gained control of.

* HeelFaceTurn: Thanks to the Magicite, it is able to regain its consciousness and turn on the Black Demon-God.
* TakingYouWithMe: In the endgame, it pulls this on the Black Demon-God in order to allow Eins to escape. It fails, but it does weaken the Demon-God just enough for Dakt to finish it off if she's still alive.
* WasOnceAMan: It used to be a human who served Eins' original incarnation, Lady Eins, until it somehow became the Tenebris.

* ChekhovsGunman: Initally, she appears to be the typical mother character who wakes up the hero and then vanishes from the plot. [[spoiler:Then Ains confronts her and it turns out that she made a deal with the Black Demon-God to keep Eins safe, stole the magicite Ains needs, and is one of the last bosses in the game.]]

The most famous hero in Hassinghador and the Uldra continent.

* HeroicSacrifice: He can potentially sacrifice himself to serve as a distraction for the spiders so his three lovers can escape, unless Dakt pulls a BigDamnHeroes moment.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He is the most famous hero in all of Uldra and fits the archetype of the hero in a StandardJapaneseFantasySetting who fights the Demon Lord, but he only shows up occasionally and does not play any role in the main story.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: His name is seen in a bag he dropped at some point, but he is always called the Hero.
* SenselessSacrifice: He offers himself to the spiders to serve as a distraction while his lovers try to open the door behind them and escape, but even if he pulls it off, the door fails to open and the spiders are only taken care of by the Red-Haired Man.

A trio of women in a polygamous relationship with the Hero.

* NoNameGiven: Unlike the Hero himself, who has his name revealed in an optional conversation, these three are only referred to by descriptors.
* {{Polyamory}}: The three of them are described as the hero's harem and all seem to be in a relationship with him.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Due to being very minor characters, they are only defined as being the hero's haremettes.

A malevolent God that once ruled the world and oppressed humanity. It has long since been slain by a hero of old, but its followers remain.

* GodOfEvil: Presumably, judging from its title and it being the leader of the demons while it was alive.
* GreaterScopeVillain: It ruled over the demons and all humanity until it was slain by [[spoiler:Lady Eins]]. The Black-Demon God, the BigBad, was one of its servants.
* PosthumousCharacter: It was killed by [[spoiler:Lady Eins]] long before the start of the story.

A giant worm that lies in the ruins of Photrest Desert.

* AdvancingBossOfDoom: It chases after Eins, who must run down the hallway to avoid it.
* SandWorm: A typical example who lies in the Photrest Ruins and chases down Eins.
* VillainousRescue: It unintentionally saves Eins from the Giant Skeleton by eating it.
* {{Superboss}}: The Demonic Worm, a version of it that can be accessed after beating the Photrest Desert. It works the same way as the first battle in that Eins needs to run down a hallway to escape it, but this time the hallway is filled with much more obstacles and the Worm is faster.

* AdvancingBossOfDoom: It chases down Eins at the bottom of the Photrest Ruins through a whole maze of rooms.
* DemBones: They are living skeletons who haunt the Photrest Ruins and chase Eins whenever she comes near.
* KingMook: The Giant Skeleton is a more massive version of the skeletons who has no special skills.
* PuzzleBoss: Unlike the Sandworm, outrunning it is not as simple as going in one direction, because you have to navigate a maze with dead ends, locked doors, and obstacles.

A trio of pale white humanoid spirits who haunt the Deserted Island laboratory.

* TerseTalker: They speak only in short sentence fragments.
* WolfpackBoss: They are a trio of spirits that chase after Eins at many points.

A demon who haunts the Deserted Island {Back} and was used as a garbage disposal.

* ExtremeOmnivore: The researchers used it as a garbage disposal because it would eat basically everything.
* ZeroEffortBoss: If you approach it as Ains, she will instantly kill it.

A fellow Demon-God who appears as the final boss to chase down Eins.

A demon-slaying mercenary who answered the Hassinghador Kingdom's request for mercenaries to hunt down the wolves plaguing the forest. In the past, she fought in a war against the Gamil Empire. She befriends Eins in the endgame and promises to protect her as best she can.
