* CharacterDeath: Inhales too much smoke whilst wandering through the burning bamboo coppice and chokes to death.
* LanguageBarrier: Is one of the few students who can translate for Kiyoko Asakawa and travels with her for a bit.
* LongLostRelative: Is the younger half-brother of Umi Martin whom he's looking for, but neither know who the other is. Kichiro only realises who she is as he's dying from smoke inhalation.

* NiceGuy: Is one of the more nicer students in V1. To the point he travels with Kiyoko to keep her safe and in the know due to her lack of english.

* TalkingThroughSigns: Due to his stutter, Marcus communicates with his group primarily through handwritten notes.

* Foil: To Jeremy Torres, the two having wildly contrasting games as Clemence quickly takes to killing with a self-serving angle towards everything she does and Jeremy being of the bigger opponents to the game itself with much self-sacrifice involved. Examplified most by their sport flashbacks late in the game as they team up as Clemence is in awe of the lenghts her fellow ballerina would go to stay thin and emulates them whilst Jeremy pushes himself past his limits for his sport, but is reluctant to feel good about it.

** Rich bitch: Comes from a wealthy family and looks down upon "Commoners", to the point she has sicced dogs on people for various reasons.

* DefensiveFeintTrap: Tries to trick Glenn Hughes and Chi Masumi to walk into the caves by laying down into a fetal position and crying, but neither takes the bait and leave instead.
* StoppedCaring: At one point wanders into the warehouse, walks past the group that had hunkered down there, finds herself a room and lays down to sleep without a care for their reactions.

* ChewToy: Gets repeteadly mistreated by Peri and Stevan, as well as shot and tortured by them after she runs away. Also having to deal with David's distrust when his group shows up at the hospital despite her injuries.
* {{Determinator}}: Drags herself to the hospital from the eastern shore after getting shot multiple times by Peri Barclay.

* CouldHaveBeenAContender: An injury courtesy of David Jackson before the trip results in Aaron getting metal plates put in his face and being unable to play baseball for the rest of his life.
* FacialScruff: Has this on his face along with the beginning of a mustache across his upper lip.

* BabyOfTheBunch: The youngest of his siblings.

* LoveableJock: Does hockey, biking and skating and is among the more reasonable of the student populace around.

* SanitySlippage: Suffers from it as the group around him increases and he suddenly runs off into a danger zone.

* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Forms a gender-flipped version of this dynamic with August Masbeth. Especially once she learns that Hawley Faust killed her best friend, Helena Van Garret and leaves to get revenge and he accompanies her.

* CharacterDeath: Falls into a coma due to a concussion and despite his group's best efforts, doesn't wake up. As a result and after a debate within the group, he's shot in the head by Adam Dodd.
* GentleGiant: Is mostly this, though he has his limits as shown by his group's confrontation with Blaine Eno.

* {{Jerkass}}: Out of his group, he is the one who goes for the harshest options and the most willing to fight others.

* {{Jerkass}}: Outside of his gambling exploits, Mason had plans to play the game until he found out his weapon was a GPS. Aside from that he thinks it's hilarious when he finds Sydney Movran and Tayli E. Vreeland dead together and loots their bodies and makes perverted commands to Heather Pendergrast in exchange for cooperation. His inability to control himself gets him killed.

* HeelFaceTurn: Goes through this after befriending Adam Dodd and more so when he forms a group with the aforementioned Dodd, Amanda Jones, Madelaine Shirohara, David Jackson and Marcus Roddy.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his rough exterior and harsh actions upon getting to the school, he catches Xian Chun after she's blinded by the flashbang Sydney Morvran throws at them, dropping his gun in the process to do so, and tries to save Sydney's life after he gets shot. He discards this afterwards in favor of pure survival.

* WasASweetKid: Was once a soft and pampered child, but after his father's death and his mother's remmarriage to short tempered man who didn't care for him, gradually hardened as he got older. His experiences at school didn't help in that matter.

* InnefectualLoner: Prefers to be alone from others outside of his rugby teammates and is for the most parts innefectual during his time on the island.

* IgnoredEnemy: Despite having a MAC-10, many don't find him threatening.
* MexicanStandoff: Gets in one with Umi Martin, Edward Rommel, Daisuke Andou and Aiden Ambrose. A momentary distraction by Garret Langston stumbling onto the scene and the standoff turned fatal.

* MexicanStandoff: Has the bad luck of getting involved in two of these, one at the waterfall with Umi Martin's group and Gabrielle Minase and later at the bamboo coppice with the trio of Adam Dodd, Alan Shinwrath and Hawley Faust followed by the duo of Jacob Starr and Uriel Hunter with Garrett Langston at his side that quickly erupt into a fight that burns the bamboo coppice down and claims the lives of several students.
