* ActionSurvivor: Ashley may get captured (quite a bit), but she's a normal young woman thrown in a ludicrous scenario that would pose considerable danger to any average person. When the player briefly controls her at one point, she lacks Leon's combat training, but she makes up for it by outrunning and outsmarting Saddler's minions by throwing anything she can grab onto at them, while keeping her nerves together enough to solve puzzles that will aid her escape. She slowly becomes one throughout the course of the remake where she goes from being scared out of her wits to a confident survivor who assists Leon many times; this is also reflected in the gameplay where she starts resisting her captors more often while being carried away as the game proceeds.

\\
For more information on his transformed self, see Verdugo's entry here.
----
* AdaptationalExpansion: Verdugo was simply one of Salazar's bodyguards in the original game, indistinguishable from the other beyond having a memorable boss fight and having no backstory of any kind. The remake provided him with one and made him a small, but vital part of the plot.
* CanonCharacterAllAlong: His final note in the main game reveals that he's the original identity of Verdugo, Ramón's red-robed bodyguard, which can be found in his lab right before his boss fight.
* CharacterCatchphrase: Of a sort. All of Isidro's notes are prefaced with "[month], X years since my awakening", referring to the time since he was implanted with a Plaga and brought into the fold of Los Iluminados.
* CoDragons: Is this to Salazar alongside his creation Pesanta.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Regardless of whether or not Las Plagas is the reason he became an amoral scientist conducting sickening experiments on humans, Isidro admits that the screams of the housekeeper during her torturous transformation into Pesanta made his hair stand on end, hoping to finish the procedure quickly before she completely loses her mind and all that pain was for nothing.
* HighClassGlass: Defeating him yields an incredibly valuable golden monocle, which is the only link to his human self that still remains.
* MadScientist: Most likely thanks to injection with an advanced strain of Las Plagas, Isidro is utterly fanatical with the advancement of his research on the fusion of human and insect, viewing it as his holy duty bestowed unto him by his master.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Isidro only shows up in a couple scenes, but he created the U-II/Novistadors that prove to be a constant thorn in both Leon and Ada's sides, personally separated Leon and Ashley for a large chunk of the game (which indirectly leads to ) and his other creation Pesanta is a major threat to Ada in her campaign.
* TearsOfJoy: Admits to having shed these when both his master Ramón and the holy Lord Saddler himself praised the results of his work.
* TheUnfettered: Isidro will do anything to fulfill the purpose Salazar has given him, no matter what it might cost. Even when Bitores Méndez petitioned him to forgive a servant that ran away from the castle, Isidro simply shrugged him off, stated that Méndez does not understand that only his noble pursuit mattered and that it would be too late to call Pesanta off from the hunt anyways.
* TheUnseen: In a sense. While Leon does have multiple encounters with Isidro in the castle, we never get to see what he used to look like before he became Verdugo.

* AmbiguouslyRelated: [[spoiler:The way the requests are written suggests he's related to Ramón by referring a stolen emerald as "our heirloom" and defacing Ramón's portrait (and there's a golden egg in the throne room that he's deathly allergic to), and has an understandable contempt for the cult. However, it should also be noted that the Merchant frequently makes references to unseen "compatriots" of his, which implies that some, if not all, of the requests aren't from him but the other people he works with, whoever they are.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Subverted. The 2023 remake Saddler is presented on the surface as a WellIntentionedExtremist who sincerely believes in what he preaches that Las Plagas is the key to achieving world peace, unlike the original game where it was implied that he didn't truly believe in the teachings of Los Iluminados and was more interested in accumulating power and taking over the world. However, as Luis notes in Saddler's Animus, the cultist leader is still a megalomaniacal man whose idea of "utopia" is to force the entire world into a deranged culture where daily ritual murders and total oppression are the norm, making it clear that he's only "nice" in the sense that he's convinced of his own twisted self-righteousness.

This part is a non-sequitur now.

** In the original game, Krauser falls to the dark side because he liked his work with SOCOM so much, so when he

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: A downplayed example, since he's still a megalomaniac-to-murderously twisted man in the 2023 remake, but now framed as a WellIntentionedExtremist who sincerely believes what he preaches. The original game implied that he didn't truly believe in the teachings of Los Iluminados and was more interested in accumulating power and taking over the world - though the localization has a line about barring the United States to not "police the world forever". The remake has him claiming that he wants to spread Las Plagas because he wants to bring peace and unity to a world that he sees is filled with hate and suffering. As a result, the remake's version of Saddler does not share the original incarnation's bigotry against Americans.

* SoProudOfYou: In the remake, Ashely saves Leon's life multiple times with her resourcefulness and bravery; when she asks whether he could be her bodyguard on a permanent basis, he shows his newfound respect for her by explaining that he refused because she has already become a hero who can take on the world without him by her side.

* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: His weapon of choice is a Mauser C96 "Red 9", which has not been in production since World War I. An interesting choice for someone who can make laser weaponry (the P.R.L), though as the Mauser [=C96=] was (and still is) popular in Spain to the point Spain actually produced a copy- the Astra Model 900- in large numbers, but this copy is chambered in the original 7.63x25mm Mauser cartridge as opposed to the 9x19 one that Luis carries and uses , it is understandable.
