* SoProudOfYou: In the remake, Ashely saves ''Leon's'' life multiple times with her resourcefulness and bravery; when she asks whether he could be her bodyguard on a ''permanent'' basis, he shows his newfound ''respect'' for her by explaining that he refused because she has ''already'' become a hero who can take on the world ''without'' him by her side.

* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: His weapon of choice is a Mauser C96 "Red 9", which has not been in production since World War I. An interesting choice for someone who can make laser weaponry (the P.R.L), though as the Mauser [=C96=] was (and still is) popular in Spain [[note]] to the point Spain actually produced a copy- the Astra Model 900- in large numbers, but this copy is chambered in the original 7.63x25mm Mauser cartridge as opposed to the 9x19 one that Luis carries and uses [[/note]] , it is understandable.

* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The Wise Guy to Leon's StraightMan when they're together, being the one to crack jokes and act charming. This dynamic is even more pronounced in the remake due to Luis's expanded screentime.

* AdaptationalHairstyleChange: From a brown, slicked back hair in the original to absolute baldness in the 2023 remake. This was likely done to display the growing Plagas on his head.

* EvilCounterpart: For Leon. Both are love using knives, worked for the US government, and even served on the same mission in ''Darkside Chronicles''. Both of them were also heavily traumatized by events relating to bioweapons, but used those feelings to fuel different causes; Leon dedicates his life to protecting the world from bioweapons, while Krauser is corrupted by the power they offer and now threatens to unleash one on the world. The remake furthers their comparison with a key shot of both characters staring into their ''[[RuleOfSymbolism reflections]]'' on their knives at different points, first when Leon gets a glimpse at Krauser's perspective thanks to Saddler's HiveMind, [[spoiler:and then right before he finishes off Krauser in their final battle.]]

* FirstNameBasis: Invoked in the remake. He insists on being referred to only by his first name, Ramón. Notes scattered around the castle reveal that he was considered the BlackSheep of the Salazar bloodline, and he, in turn, hates the rest of his kin, especially his parents.

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the original, Ramón is implied to have been a more composed and decent man before the Plaga infection drove him into madness, judging from his housekeeper's note. The remake changes this by establishing that he was already an evil bastard long before Saddler entered the picture, with the housekeeper now recalling that Ramón had a violent and sadistic temperament even as a child.
* AintTooProudToBeg: In the remake, [[spoiler:when he is moments away from death, rather than trash-talk Leon yet again. Ramón screams out and pathetically begs his master, Lord Saddler, to save him.]]

child. The remake also establishes the Salazar family as benevolent rulers who safeguarded the world from the potential threat of Las Plagas for generations... until Ramón, drawn by the malevolent will-overriding nature of the Plagas themselves, gleefully helped to unleash them for his own benefit, and also to spite his parents.
