* TheStormbringer: Both titans summon perpetual weather as long as they're awake, with Groudon summoning inhospitably hot sunlight (presented by its Drought ability) and Kyogre summoning endless rain (represented by its Drizzle ability).

* TheStormbringer: [[MagmaMan Groudon]] and [[KrakenAndLeviathan Kyogre]]. Being the creators of the landmasses and the seas, both Pokémon can be considered living forces of nature. Kyogre's awakening brings not just a storm, but the Pokémon equivalent of TheGreatFlood. This power is backed up by its in-game ability, Drizzle. Conversely, Groudon's presence intensifies the strength of sunshine to the point of provoking droughts. As in the case of Kyogre, this power is proven by its in-game ability, properly named Drought.

* IrrationalHatred: Kyogre and Groudon don't have any personal reason go enter repeated clashes with one another, it's simply that they feel compelled to fight whenever they're around each other and do nothing to fight against those urges.

* BehemothBattle: Between Groudon and Kyogre.

* DeepSleep: Groudon and Kyogre were in one before being awakened by Team Magma/Aqua, and are only awakened by the red or blue orbs and can easily go out of control after waking up.

* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: At some point in the past Rayquaza was able to battle both Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon at the same time, and not only ''won'' but actually stopped them from accessing their full power without the power of the red or blue orbs. And this was ''without'' it being capable of accessing higher power at the time.

* DeepSleep: Groudon and Kyogre were in one before being awakened by Team Magma/Aqua.

** Rayquaza may resist Water attacks and be immune to Ground ones, but it's quite the GlassCannon compared to both Kyogre and Groudon and can be taken out by either if they decide to use a move that it's weak to. Averted again with Mega Rayquaza, whose ability cancels the normal Flying-type weaknesses.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Its name was originally trademarked in Japan as Kaiorga, but was changed early on to Kyogre to match the rest of the world.

* DaylightHorror: Groudon's Drought ability in the original ''Ruby'' automatically makes the weather sunny and bright... which dries up all water sources and violently expands continents. In ''Omega Ruby'', Desolate Land does much of the same, only now ''the sky is on fire''. Oh, and playing that part of the game at night does not help at all.

** Mega Rayquaza takes this trope to whole new heights. Rayquaza does not need a Mega Stone to Mega Evolve (just know Dragon Ascent), so it's allowed to hold any item its trainer wishes, unlike every other Mega-Evolving Pokémon (however, if it's holding a Z-Crystal, it won't be able to Mega Evolve). This is '''on top''' of having one of the highest base stat totals in the game, handily surpassing that of [[TheMaker Arceus]]. And all this is, again, on top of having an ability that completely suppresses some of its biggest weaknesses and ensures that it cannot be hit by Ice moves for massive damage anymore. All this combines into such a ludicrously oppressive force that the community had to create a whole new [[CharacterTiers tier of play]] [[BeyondTheImpossible above Ubers, the previous highest tier]], '''solely for Mega Rayquaza.''' Its name? "Anything Goes". There's PurposelyOverpowered and then there's "so Purposely Overpowered you break the metagame over your knee and make it cry uncle, and pretty much all the established rules of good sportsmanship need to be thrown out of the window '''just to have a chance at countering you'''."

* RatedMForManly: It's a two-ton fire-breathing dinosaurian monstrosity that spent its DeepSleep bathing in magma.

* OffModel: Strangely, Rayquaza's inner mouth was blue in its third generation sprites. Fortunately, this was fixed in later installments by recoloring the inner mouth to a more natural pink.

* AnimalisticAbomination: They're ancient beings who accidentally created the oceans and lands as a result of their fighting. Awakening them [[WaklingWasteland causes the weather to go mad and has the risk of destroying Hoenn and quite possibly the world]]. Kyogre looks like [[Literature/TheBible the Leviathan]], Groudon is inspired by a {{Kaiju}} and Rayquaza [[OurDragonsAreDifferent looks like a chinese mythological dragon.]]

** Rayquaza is said to appear when Kyogre and Groudon are in conflict and cals their powers. Rayquaza's ability Air Lock neutralizes the weather Kyogre and Groudon's abilities summon as long as it's in battle. Taken even further with Mega Rayquaza's ability Delta Stream, which also prevents weather from working and causes super-effective attacks against Flying-types to deal normal damage, meaning Kyogre's Ice-type attacks and Groudon's Rock-type attacks aren't as effective as they were before.
