** Of the Blangonga. Its subspecies, which lives in the desert and similarly colored to Blangonga's subspecies, only exemplifies this. Their weapons also share the same characteristics, with Blangonga/Barioth's being ice elemental weapons and their subspecies' being powerful raw weapons. Averted in ''Generations Ultimate'' where they both appear (albeit without their desert-dwelling subspecies).
** Of Tigrex as well, being an earthbound wyvern that lives in both snow and (via subspecies) the desert.

* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: An Apex Zinogre shows up during the fight against Amatsu in ''Sunbreak'', briefly fighting with the stronger Elder Dragon before being temporarily overpowered. This overpowering, however, [[NiceJobFixingItVillain allows for the player to mount an Apex monster]] for the first time ever.]]

A beautiful but dangerous Elder Dragon which spends most of its time airborne. It is said to have the ability to control wind and rain, as evidenced by being surrounded by storm clouds.

* BlowYouAway: Some of its attacks include wind blasts and tornadoes.

* MakingASplash: It can fire high pressure water jets.

* WeirdBeard: They have a pair of barbels at their snout that you can break for extra rewards

* BareYourMidriff: Female Wroggi armor shows off the wearer's belly.

* BareYourMidriff: The female Droth armor shows off a lot of belly.

* BareYourMidriff: Female Hunters have this when wearing Uroktor armor, on account of it being a ChainmailBikini.

* MsFanservice: Often the case with the female armor crafted from its parts. The HR beta chest piece in ''World'' is basically a cropped jacket that combines BareYourMidriff with plenty of cleavage and the MR version is a low-cut corset that also enhances the wearer's bust by a couple of cup sizes. To top it off: the cups of all chest pieces inexplicably [[JigglePhysics jiggle]].

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: For a lack of Subspecies in ''Generations'', Redhelm is this towards Stygian Zinogre, having the same color motifs. Ironic considering the rivalry. This also applies for Apex Arzuros and Redhelm Arzuros, what with it being a harder, bigger version of Arzuros that uses some of Redhelm's moves.

* NoPronunciationGuide: Is it pronounced "La-jye-a-crus" or "La-gee-a-crus"? If it's any clue, however, the Japanese name is "Ragiakurusu", suggesting the latter.

* NoPronunciationGuide: Is it pronounced "devil-ho" or "devil-jo"? ''World'', which has actual voice acting, finally confirms it to be the latter.

* NoPronunciationGuide: Its name can be pronounced as "see-deus", "say-a-deus", "che-a-deus", or, if you want to go with the original Latin, "kay-a-deus". "See-deus" appears to be the intended pronunciation, however. [[note]]One of the Ace Cadet's monster-name puns is "Long time, no Ceadeus," which would only work when pronounced as such. In a similar vein, a Switch Axe in ''3 Ultimate'' made from Ceadeus parts is called the [[JustForPun "Inceadeus Axe"]].[[/note]]

* AlwaysABiggerFish: A common danger of high-rank quests is a Deviljho appearing out of nowhere. This can happen even if you're hunting another Deviljho already! This became its main shtick in ''World'', where Deviljho has a turf war with older apex monsters Rathalos and Diablos and wins, while also trouncing newcomers Legiana and Odogaron, [[GrievousHarmWithABody the latter of which is treated as no different than a Great Jagras despite being able to best the bigger Rabodaan]]. Only fellow invader Bazelgeuse is able to fight it to a draw.
** Deviljho itself is not immune to this trope; one of its only predators is Ukanlos, which is significantly larger and stronger and also actively hunts Deviljho in its territory, and is consequently [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness the only monster Deviljho fears]].

* TheWorfEffect: Twice over in ''Iceborne'':
** [[PlayerCharacter The Sapphire Star]] manages to slay Alatreon in a single, but admittedly grueling, hunt not too long after reports of its presence come to the Commission's attention. This serves to show that the Commission has now become an incredibly well-oiled machine that can quickly respond to ecological threats such as Alatreon and eliminate them in short order.
** Later, another Alatreon pops up in the Secluded Valley, but is slain even faster than the first one due to its health pool being significantly smaller. However, it is implied that this Alatreon [[spoiler:was actually fleeing from the emergent [[Characters/MonsterHunterFirstGenerationMonsters Fatalis]] and possibly wounded by the latter during a battle]].

* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: More like Everything's Three Billion Times Worse With Dinosaurs, as you do ''not'' want this fellow showing up to ruin your day unless you're specifically trying to hunt it.

* TheRival: The ''Dive into MHW: Iceborne'' guidebook implies that [[Characters/MonsterHunterFifthGenerationMonsters Safi'jiiva]] and Alatreon are fighting over territory ''on a planetary scale'', with Alatreon's destructive power being the stated counter to Safi'jiiva's unnatural land remodeling. Alatreon's first appearance in ''Iceborne'' turns out to be a case of trying to erase traces of Safi'jiiva's existence; in this case, its nest since Safi'jiiva disappears following the Special Recon Assignment that unlocks Alatreon's own Assignment.

* DifficultySpike: The Jhen Mohran village quest in ''3 Ultimate'' is part of the seven-star tier, but is so tough that most players recommend putting it off until the player has progressed well into ''G-rank''. It's an enemy you were once expected to fight with up to four other players, ''solo'', and the mechanics can be confusing for new players. Fortunately, merely repelling Jhen Mohran counts the mission as complete, and it's optional unless you want to fight Alatreon.

* TheWorfEffect: ''Sunbreak'' has a Zinogre take on a Scorned Magnamalo in it's introductory cutscene and while the two Fanged Beasts are fairly evenly matched at first, the Zinogre is quickly cut down with a [[SingleStrokeBattle single blow]] from Scorned Magnamalo's arm blade once the latter enters it's [[SuperMode powered up state]].

* {{Autocannibalism}}: If no food is available, it will eat its own severed tail, which can make harvesting from it difficult.

* ExtremeOmnivore: Will try to eat ''anything''; meat, Herbivores, Hunters, Wyverns, [[IAmAHumanitarian other Deviljhos]], or [[{{Autocannibalism}} even its own severed tail]].[[note]]The last case can be a bit of a pain, though, since you'll probably want to ''carve'' that severed tail before he eats it.[[/note]] If it bleeds, it's food, and Deviljho will either devour it or die in the attempt.

* HorrorHunger: Played with. Contrary to popular belief, Deviljho are not constantly hungry, however, they are driven by a constant instinct to feed whenever feasible (and thus will eat even when they are not hungry) and need something going through at least some part of their digestive system at all times for their bodies to be comfortable. This impulse reaches the point that if you cut off its tail there's a good chance Deviljho will ''eat its own severed flesh'' (which actually is something many real animals that can lose their tails and regenerate them will do in order to regain some lost energy).

* TheDreaded: Even by Elder Dragon Standards, Alatreon is feared; [[http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Dangerous_First-Class_Monsters it;s on the same level as Fatalis and Dire Miralis]].

* TheWorfEffect: ''Sunbreak'' has a Zinogre take on and get quickly killed fighting a Scorned Magnamalo in the latter's introductory cutscene.

* OneSteveLimit: “Frostfang” is the name of the Variant introduced in ''Iceborne'', but it’s ''also'' the name of Avinia’s Barioth in ''Monster Hunter Stories''.
* PantheraAwesome: It's a [[MixAndMatchCritter Wyvern mixed with a Smilodon]].

According to the legend, the hunter became trapped in a volcano after attempting to save a Felyne in danger, and when he asked the Guild for assistance, they refused to help him and left him for dead, claiming that trying to save him would be too dangerous. Furious with them for letting him suffer, he swore revenge, and the volcano [[BalefulPolymorph gradually morphed him into a monster]] before he eventually [[DrivenToSuicide committed suicide]]. His spirit now lives on inside the ornery beast that shares his namesake.
