* AnAdventurerIsYou: The Scrapper DPS with elements of Avoidance Tank. Their skillset allows user to draw aggro into the user more often so they can counterattack back with multiple strikes, but they're not tanky enough to take too much hit within interval of few turns. Luchador fixes this somewhat by giving them a little bit of defense boost, but unless you're on a burst enabler build, you also don't want to draw aggro into the captain too much.
* AwesomeButImpractical: For the longest time, the primary utility for Luchador is as a selfish attacker that relies on not being hit so they can build up hype buff for their own team, however the primary skill of Luchador simply boost their hostility and make them primary target for counter-strikes. The Knifehand Strike clashes with Ring Ruler and doesn't synergize well with the practice, forcing players to find other ways to redirect attack from them, and it's the reason why the class is generally unfavorable for the longest time. It's also practically useless in bosses that can hit all party members at once. It changed once rebalances added the Extended Mastery Skill Tag Team into their arsenal, turning the class into a powerful single-turn burst setup when played correctly in the correct team.
* BoobsAndButtPose: Djeeta Luchador's art pronounces both of her cleavage and butt curves exponentially.
* CounterAttack: The aptly named Counter skills allows user to dodge-and-counter all incoming attacks. Knifehand Strike also does the same but it also buffs the caster's defenses and hostility on top of having to tank them instead of just dodging, which makes them impractical in Ring Ruler setups.
* DifficultButAwesome: Ring Ruler boost all of your team's Hype level per turn as long as Captain didn't get hit. It's generally better to have characters that can redirect your aggro towards them to keep the momentum up.

* ArcherArchetype
* BalanceBuff: In 2020, Nighthound gain two skills that gives him other niche besides being a support unit, such as the highly coveted Elemental DEF Down and multi-hitting debuff skill for Bow and Gun centric teams.
* CoolButInefficient: Generally speaking, being able to freely swap with the backrow party members in a game where you can't do it freely sounds pretty exploitable, but unless you had characters that can exploit it's backrow swapping powers (which are rare), the skill is not very useful, not to mention it won't trigger Evoker's passives which requires the swapped member to be knocked out instead. Their Bow and Gun speciality skills is also overshadowed by more specialized classes like Robin Hood or Gunslinger. It's the reason why the class rarely sees play outside of OneHitKill setups or Proving Grounds event where having R or SR characters in the front row also boosts your overall score.
* NotTheIntendedUse: Through it was intended to be an utility support unit, Nighthound found themselves in a niche one-turn kill strategies used in Proving Grounds showdowns and churning out as many damaging skill as possible from every character in the party of R and/or SR characters.

* WeaponOfChoice: They can wield Harps and Daggers in combat.

[[folder:Lancer Derived]]
-->'''Style''': Attack
-->'''Weapon Speciality''': Lance, Axe
-->'''Class Line''': Lancer -> Dragoon -> Valkyrie -> Apsaras
-->-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Romulus Spear -> Helmwige
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: Primarily Blademaster DPS, but becomes a potent Buffer after reaching Apsaras.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Einherjar requires the player to keep avoiding attacks to be useful, but the amount you get for each cast is not worth the effort and it's not as spammable as other stackable skills from other classes/characters. It's a lot more useful on Apsaras where they can redirect aggression to your other allied party members instead.
* BalanceBuff: Due to it's niche uses and being greatly overshadowed by other classes/characters in terms of offensive capability and utility, Apsaras was one of the few classes that got almost everything on their skillset directly buffed or just straight up reworked in the 2020 class update.
** Thunder on Water was rebalanced into a more grid-and-party focused skill with emphasis on buffing overall damage based on the Axes and Spears on the weapon grid, which depending on the grindables you can collect for the grid, allows you to rack up as many buffs as you can get without having to lock yourself to a specific mainhand. It's actually harder to pull if you don't have that many grindable Spear-Axe in your grid, but was less frustrating compared to their original incarnation of the skill.
* BladeOnAStick: The weapon of choice for the class line in general. They can also wield axes, which usually grants them different attributes compared to wielding spears.
* BlindIdiotTranslation: Randgrith was mistranslated as Land Grease for a long time until 2018.
* BoringButPractical: Before Apsaras, Valkyrie is mostly a straightforward class focused on
* DifficultButAwesome: Prior to Apsaras, the Lancer derived line are rather straightforward class that focuses on buffing themselves
* JackOfAllTrades: The class line boast one of the largest multiattack boost after Luchador and Chrysaor, while also has multitude supportive abilities and skills, but they're still pale in comparison to other more focused class that might or might not be stronger in that specific role.
* ShoutOut: The Dragoon class and outfit is pretty much a dead ringer to the Dragoon class from VideoGame/FinalFantasy series, specifically the fourth game.

[[folder:Gladiator Derived]]
-->'''Style''': Attack
-->'''Weapon Speciality''': Sabre, Katana
-->'''Class Line''': Gladiator -> Chrysaor
-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Proximo -> Wasserspeier
The Gladiator line is a class specialized in dealing as much damage as possible through multiattacks and skill damage. They're the first class that adopts the Auxilary weapon system where they can dual wield two different weapon at once as long as it's the same mainhand and element, which allow them to gain extra properties from their skills and deal multiattacks more often.
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: The definitive Scrapper DPS. They have pretty high multiattack rate allows them to ramp up their charge bar and deal charge attacks quicker quicker.
* BlingOfWar: Both Chrysaor is adorned in an impressive golden armor.
* ChargedAttack: Another class line that specializes in dealing CA damage often. Unlike Kengo which needs extra ramp up time however, the class high innate multiattack rate allows them to keep being able to pump out as much multiattack as possible, and in turn gain more charge bar every turn.
* DeathByAThousandCuts: Decimate inflicts up to 10 hit superior elemental damage to a single foe, and more often than not will kill the target in a single cast.
* DualWielding: The Gladiator-derived class is one of the few class with AUX-weapon system where it can have more than 1 mainhand. Through not necessary to play the entire class, most of the skill are locked or not as effective if the player is not wielding an AUX weapon.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: One of the very few classes that can wield Katana weapon types.
* MythologicalThemeNaming: Chrysaor is named after the son of Poseidon and Medusa in Greek Mythology.
* OddOneOut: Gladiator is so far the only class where you have to master an EX-class (Sword Master) to unlock it.
* PowerCreep: Easily powercrept the Machinist class as de facto charge attack booster for the team, providing offensive power without sacrificing too much for utility.
** They eventually got powercrept by Relic Buster in terms of charge bar efficiency and multi-attacking prowess, which is also easier to obtain due to being a free reward from an event.
** They got even more powercrept by Viking in terms of even higher raw offensive power and their AUX-weapon skills are a lot more flexible to use than the Gladiator class line.
* RequiredSecondaryPower: Most of their offensive skill requires them to wield a compatible (i.e. equippable weapon with the same element type as the main hand) to activate it's secondary effect, and some of the skills are required to have an AUX-hand to can even be activated.
* RoyalRapier: Wasserspeier is a rather elegant looking pair of rapier adorned in blue ribbon to match.
* WeaponOfChoice: The class can wield Sabres and Katanas as their mainhand.

-->'''Style''': Heal

-->'''Class Line''': Priest -> Cleric -> Bishop -> Sage -> Iatromantis
-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Nirvana -> Hallowed Pilgrimage
Priest and their derived classes are TheMedic that specializes in healing allies raid-wide. Their healing skills may not have the versatility of some more dedicated Heal character skills, but their effects are usually Raid-wide and large in numbers.
----
* AbsoluteCleavage: Both Captain's Iatromantis outfit sports a sling scarf that reveal their cleavage.
* AliceAllusion: The Sage class is the allusion to the White Rabbit, down to the handheld watch ad the rabbit ears. Djeeta even dons a PlayboyBunny outfit.
* AnAdventurerIsYou: The Classic Healer, with the elements of the Curer and Buffer splashed into. Veil and White Wall gives some element of Preemptive Healer to the mix.
** Iatromantis allows you to be a Scrapper DPS thanks to Purging Aura, which gives you guaranteed triple attack and Echo modifier for normal attacks.
* BoringButPractical: Most of the Priest-line skills are singular effects that confined to a single cast spell, like Clarity and Dispel, and their heals are not that flashy, but their numbers are large and the effect is Raid-wide, which affects all parties.
* CombatMedic: Iatromantis allows you to become one if you wield spears as main and sub weapons, dealing bonus elemental damage and guaranteed triple attacks.
* CripplingOverspecialization: See OvershadowedByAwesome below. The fact that Sage healing and curing skills are functionally separated with each skill means that their skillsets will be filled brim with healing and curing skills that functionally weaker than something like a character's heal skills that also removes 1 debuff in a single click, with the only upside being able to carry two same-type clarity or dispel skills when needed and having lower cooldowns. The amount you heal is also capped (albeit higher than some of other character's healing skills) and requires the player to use some sort of healing cap up to churn out as many healing as you can get if you're planning to do a consistent Stamina grid. The Iatromantis manages to iron out some of the design crufts of their predecessor and giving them multiple options, as a direct upgrade of Sage with Healing Aura (wield two staves), as CombatMedic with Purging Aura (wield two spears), or a more supportive inbetween with Aiding Aura (wield both weapon types, one each).
* DualWielding: Iatromantis also adopts the sub-weapon system used by Viking and changes their passive ability based on what main and sub weapon type is used. The difference between Iatromantis dual wielding compared to other AUX-weapon classes is that none of the Iatromantis skills affected by the weapon type, instead it decides what kind of passive you get for the MC, which turns them into either a direct upgrade to Sage (Healing Aura), a CombatMedic (Purging Aura), or a supportive inbetween that boost the party's offensive and defensive power (Aiding Aura).
* MasterOfNone: Wielding both staves and spears as Iatromantis gives you Aiding Aura, which despite of their supportive capabilities, are nowhere as powerful as Healing and Purging Aura. The permanent 10% TA Buff to the entire party is still welcome.
* TheMedic: One of the very few Heal class-line and they're dedicated mostly on healing.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: In comparison to other Heal characters, Priest class line is a pure utility class that excels in healing and nothing else. In a game where most healing skills gave more features (like removing 1-or-more debuff or granting powerful buffs to target) and is supplemental to a character, the Priest-line feels lacking in comparison. Even the reworked Light De La Fille provides better healing utility than a fully built Sage. Averted once you reach Iatromantis, where their primary healing skill now also heal and cures 1 debuff on all allies in relatively short cooldown.
* PlayboyBunny: Djeeta's Sage outfit invokes this, double with LeotardOfPower.
* SquishyWizard: Averted. The Priest class line is suprisingly durable in taking more punishment than some Staff-speciality Class/Characters in the game. Most of their healing skills are also spammable in short turns, which allows them to survive more often.
* StatusBuffDispel: The aptly named Dispel skill removes 1 buff from the target enemy. Dispel Deluge can also removes 1 buff from all enemies in a raid, useful in fights where there are more than 1 target to choose.
* SupportPartyMember: The Priest-derived line are the primary healing class for the Captain, and while their offensive capabilities are unrestricted (unlike some other support party members), their numbers are comparatively lacking, and is best used as the team's primary healing and curing bot. Iatromantis' Aiding Aura provides supportive capabilities in form of multiattack buff passive for the entire team and 30% chance of removing 1 debuff at the turn start.
* WeaponOfChoice: Can use Staves or Spears in combat.

-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Keraunos -> Demonic Longstaff
Wizard and their derived classes are SquishyWizard specializes in casting powerful but long-winded nukes for best effectiveness in combat.
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: Prior to Warlock, Wizards are The Nukers that specializes in high burst skill damage and a little bit of status debuff from Sorcerer and Hermit. Warlock's Dark Haze and Chaser leans the class into Buffer/Debuffer hybrid to support overall party damage.
** After Mastery LV 30, Warlock also becomes the Resource Master for Crest-based teams that needed them.
* DifficultButAwesome: Aether Bane's stacks improves Aether Blast III damage tremendously, but it's debuff duration is not reset, so you want to track on the duration before you can cast your nukes, especially if you're using Laser Focus on tandem.
* LinearWarriorsQuadraticWizards: Averted. Wizard line's skill damage potential is based on the player's build on breaking the damage cap on top of ramping up their Aether Blast damage using Aether Bane and Laser Focus, given that auto-attacking and charge attacks allows you to break through the cap's easier (and faster), their damage value outshines the skill damage boost from the Wizard class line that need some time to ramp up for the best effectiveness. Nowadays the class is best used for their Dark Haze and Chaser skill.
* MightyGlacier: Both Laser Focus and Aether Bane rewards player by playing the patient game through refraining from using any spell and skills until you reach maximum stacks, as such, the damage curve of this class line is significantly slower than some dedicated attackers.
* SquishyWizard: The Wizard class line is not very durable, even in full defense grid.
* WeaponOfChoice: Can use Staves or Daggers in fight.

-->'''Style''': Balanced
-->'''Weapon Speciality''': Dagger, Gun
-->'''Class Line''': Thief -> Raider -> Hawkeye -> Bandit Tycoon
-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Oliver -> The Storyteller
The Thief and their derived classes are JackOfAllTrades that specializes into inflicting singular yet powerful boosted damage on foes in a break status as well as inflicting ever so useful Bounty Hunter debuff, which increases the target's drop rate, which is very useful in farming.
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: Scrapper DPS with elements of the Backstabber thanks to the Crack Shot ability, especially against foes in Break status. They also functions as a minor Debuffer with the ability to boost drop rates depending on how much the stack of Bounty Hunter applied.
* AnimeHair: Gran sports a large, unkempt afro inspired by the Kabuki portrayal of Goemon Ishikawa.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Downplayed. While Bandit Tycoon itself is not very weapon-dependent, the best use of the class is to use weapons that grants extra source of Bounty so they can easily reach Bounty Level 9 and further boost the damage of Crack Shot and Spring Gate combo. You also want to have characters that can inflict bounty consistently in raids (like Mary or Tien) to boost their damage even further.
* FragileSpeedster: The Thief line has multiple methods of boosting multiattack rate, whether it'll be Lethal Aim or Force Snatch, though it's best to use Double Trouble III for the guaranteed triple attack boost instead.
** Spring's Gate inflicts all enemies with Onslaught debuff, which treat them like they're in Break status. It practically allow Bandit Tycoon to become a powerful Anytime Assassin that deal burst damage every five turns thanks to their Crack Shot III ability and by how much Bounty is accumulated throughout the battle.
* GentlemanThief: The Bandit Tycoon is inspired by the common portrayal of UsefulNotes/IshikawaGoemon in Kabuki theatre.
* GlassCannon: Bandit Tycoon amps up the class line offensive power thanks for being able to apply a debuff that makes it so the afflicted were in break status regardless of the current status, and it's on a generous 5 turn cooldown. The best use of this class is to bring as many Bounty and/or Break-Assassin characters into the party as you could fit, which may or may not turn your entire party to this if you have no frontline to soak up damage or healer to heal back all the damage taken every turn.
* KnifeNut: The Thief line can wield Daggers, but unless the weapon in question has some good charge attack bonus (like Four-Sky Blade and Damascus Knife), it's best to use Gun instead.
* QuadDamage: Crack Shot boost the user's attack by four times against enemies in Break status. While it's hard to achieve thanks to Break status can be reset when the boss reach certain HP threshold, Spring's Gate inflicts 3-turn onslaught that works the same as being on Break status, even when their Break status were reset prior, allowing you to consistently deal damaging burst every 5 turns or so.
* StatusBuffDispel: Force Snatch can remove 1 buff from a foe while also granting you a full turn of guaranteed triple attack. The downside is that they have 1 turn more cooldown than Double Trouble III.
* VideoGameStealing: Averted. Bounty Hunter doesn't really steal, but it boost the current drop rates based on how much Bounty stack the target inflicted upon with this skill.
* WeaponOfChoice: Can use both Daggers and Guns.

[[folder:Enchanter Derived]]
-->'''Style''': Special
-->'''Weapon Speciality''': Sabre, Dagger
-->'''Class Line''': Enchanter -> Arcane Dueler -> Dark Fencer -> Chaos Ruler
-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Ipetam -> Original Sin
Enchanter and their derived class is a JackOfAllTrades that doesn't have certain speciality apart of boosting skill damage and stalling enemies, that's it until Dark Fencer, where they become a dedicated crowd control-oriented fighters that specializes into debuffing enemies and controlling their charge diamond flow onward.
----
* NinetiesAntiHero: Chaos Ruler invokes this through their looks and their cold-hearted uncaring badass demeanor invoked in their design.
* AnAdventurerIsYou: Prior to Dark Fencer, they're usually the Jack between Mezzer and Buffer, providing boost to skill damage to all parties while also delaying the opponent's charge diamond. Dark Fencer onwards, the class line is now a dedicated mix between Debuffer and Mezzer thanks to useful charge diamond control skills such as Stall II and Gravity while also providing a simple powerful debuff in form of Miserable Mist.
* CooldownManipulation: Sabotage cuts all skill cooldown by 1 turn. Likewise, Vengeance also cut debuff skill (blue border) cooldown by 1 turn, allowing the class to freely spam their abilities more often.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Both Dark Fencer and Chaos Ruler dons an ominously dark outfit and using dark powers in fight, but both Gran and Djeeta are good natured people regardless of their classes.
* DifficultButAwesome: Chaos field effect lowers the debuff resistance of all units in the battlefield, including your own. It's useful in battles where bosses gains debuff resistances overtime, not so much in shorter and easy to clear battles.
* JackOfAllTrades: Even after reaching Dark Fencer/Chaos Ruler, the class line is a flexible control-oriented fighter that's useful in any situation. Chaos Ruler can also become a minor buffer with Uprising and can grant team-wide sustain with Absorption.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Blood Sword skill is greatly overshadowed by Absorption as the class line's de facto sustain skill, even with the Original Sin's Vigilante Divinity, simply because the drain cap is only 1000 HP and it's not very effective in battles where damage taken can reach up to 5000 or more, while Absorption allows you to heal 30% of damage taken at the end of turn.
** This also applies to Unpredictable skill from Chaos Ruler. The skill itself is a direct upgrade to Dark Fencer's Miserable Mist, but many still uses Mist over Unpredictable because only Chaos Rulers can use the Unpredictable skill whilst the Mist can be used by any class that needed the ATK and DEF down, while also has two-turn less cooldown. Unpredictable is also weaker to some other debuffing skills such as Yurius' Truth Seeker and Summer Helel's Tresspass, both of which can also inflict the usual ATK and DEF down debuff on top of one random debuff (albeit localized) per cast, but those two can be cast as many time as you want as long as the character still have charge bar in reserve on top of their normal ATK and DEF down debuff being stackable up to 40%, allowing you to easily reach the 50% debuff in few casts and a regular mist.
* ShoutOut: The Arcana Dueler outfit is based on VideoGame/FinalFantasy's Red Mage outfit. Likewise, the Dark Fencer outfit is similar to the armours used by Dark Knights in most of the games, specifically the ones from the Franchise/IvaliceAlliance games.
* SimpleYetAwesome: Miserable Mist inflicts all enemies with 25% Attack and Defense down for 180 second with generous cooldown. It's singlehandedly one of the strongest Captain's skill and it's splashable in any scenario who needs it, even in Row IV and V classes. The sole exception being when the boss is immune to it, like the Four Primarchs. Because of the power it gives in a single cast, Dark Fencer is one of the class best obtained early for that skill alone. It's no wonder the skill is named [[FanNickname Mandatory Mist]] by the playerbase.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Djeeta forgoes the fully armored look of Chaos Ruler in favor of a more revealing set.
* WeaponOfChoice: Can wield Sabres as well as Daggers, with the former being preferable.
* WreckedWeapon: As part of their cold-hearted, uncaring badass demeanor, the Chaos Ruler class' will break their own weapon as part of their victory animation. Of course [[GameplayAndStorySegregration the actual weapon will not break in their equipment/inventory]].

Knight is your standard tank class, specializing in mitigating damage dealt towards the party with the ability "Phalanx", completely nullify all damage dealt to user/selected ally with "Centurion", or redirecting all attacks to user with "Substitute", in which none of the skills are mutually exclusive and can be cast anytime they're needed.
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: The Mitigation Tank. Knight-derived classes are specializing in reducing as much damage taken as possible in short to medium timeframe. Even moreso with Paladin, which further mitigates damage through DMG Mitigation and even Substitute-All with Noblesse Proteger, which grants them 10000 Shield that persist until exhausted.
** With Spartan, they also gain the ability to become a Mezzer thanks to Hardened Shield, which inflicts delay to a foe and is vital in long battles where enemy charge attacks can be really dangerous to the team.
** Paladin's "Best Offense Is A Good Defense" leans them towards Scrapper DPS thanks to the increased multiattacks and damage boost, allowing it to become a powerful off-tank based on the amount of shield you managed to obtain throughout the game without lowering their defensive capabilities.
* BladeOnAStick: Not as popular as Sabre, but they can wield Spears if the weapon skill synergizes well with the class.
* CoolHelmet: Both Paladin wears an impressively over-the-top helmet with multiple winged ornaments.
* CripplingOverspecialization: For the longest time, the Knight-derived class line focus solely on defense and defense alone. The class line has little to no offensive power on their own (the closest thing the class line had are Overdrive Surge that's weak outside of Overdrives and practically useless in [=V2=] battles, and Hardened Shield that buffs attack power just a bit but primarily used for it's Delay) and they're not as effective against enemies that can attack all allies at once. Finally averted once you advance to Paladin class, which passively bolster their offensive power through the amount of shield you have collected so far.
* DrawAggro: Substitute allows Captain to draw aggro of all impending attack towards them, excluding all-ally attacks that target all allies. Noblesse Proteger is an upgrade that not only it works on all-ally attacks, but it also grants the user 10000 shield. The downside of Noblesse Proteger is that Paladin is no longer boosted by Aegis Boon like their predecessor.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Usually the most prefered weapon type to use, due to better synergy with Ultima Weapons.
* KnightInShiningArmor: Paladin wears an impressive suit of armor painted in bright gold.
* LightningBruiser: Thanks to Best Offense Is a Good Defense, Paladin gets a massive boost in offensive power (including Normal ATK UP, DA up, and TA up) based on how much shield you managed to accumulate, on top of the cap of damage taken by 10000 and plethora of defensive abilities Paladin has, Paladin can consistently score multiattacks every turn without the need to worry about overspecializing themselves into defense.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Most of the Knight-derived classes arm themselves with shields in their sprites. Averted with Holy Sabre, which forgoes the shield altogether, though the shield returns with Spartan and Paladin.
* NoSell: Centurion allows user to basically deny all damage dealt for 1 time only to user at a cost of lowered attack damage. Centurion II allows user to grant other characters in the party one time damage immunity without the damage penalty.
* ThePaladin: The class line greatly invokes this as a theme. Also the fifth class of the class-line is [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin literally named Paladin]].
* ShieldBash: The "Hardened Shield" skill shows user to bash their shield to the enemy and stagger them on impact, which inflicts delay to their charge diamond.
* ShoutOut: The Spartan class is definitely inspired by Film/ThreeHundred.
* StoneWall: By far one of the tankiest unit in the game, if not the tankiest. Taken even further with Paladin, which boost their defenses further and giving them even more skills to basically redirect all attacks towards them, though it also turns them into LightningBruiser thanks to their passive.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Even moreso than Berserker, Djeeta's Spartan outfit exposes her entire torso down to her thighs, revealing a scantily clad undergarment.
* WeaponOfChoice: They can wield either Sabre and Spear weapon types.

-->'''Style''': Attack
-->'''Weapon Speciality''': Sabre, Axe
-->'''Class Line''': Fighter -> Warrior -> Weapon Master -> Berserker -> Viking
-->'''Class Champion Weapons''': Avenger -> Berserker Barrage
Fighters are the class specialized primarily in dealing damage, either through maximizing charge attacks, boosting multi-attack modifier, or buffing their damaging stats.
----
* AnAdventurerIsYou: Primarily a Blademaster DPS with elements of Meat Shield Tank. Fighter-derived classes have some of the more consistent ways to boost overall damage whether through using multi-attack booster, damaging skills, or through using it's primary skill, '''Full Arsenal''', which fill up user's charge bar and granting them damage boost. They also have thick enough HP to basically no need to worry about their survivability if attacked often.
** Starting with Berseker, they also lean towards Scapper DPS thanks to Ulfhedinn allowing them to run through enemies with ease thanks to guaranteed triple attack. Viking further bolster their scrapping potential with Norden Harr and Vinland, the former grants triple attack to user when equipped with Sabre while the latter allows you to perform charge attacks three times in-a-row. Vikings also starts to dual wield their weapons and can equip two different weapon types thanks to the sub-weapon feature imported from Gladiator-Chrysaor line, but their skills functions differently compared to Gladiators/Chrysaor and functions more like the Lancer-derived class skills where it gives you extra effects based on equipped weapons, and you can have both effects if you equip both Sabre and Axe as your main and/or sub weapon.
* TheBerserker: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Berserker]] class can evoke this with the skill "Ulfhedinn", which boost their damage and granting them guaranteed triple attack for a full 4 turn, but it locks the user from casting any other skills while the buff is still active, and it can't be removed.
* BoringButPractical: In comparison to many other specialized attackers, Fighter derived classes doesn't have the flash or flair that other more focused attackers like Gladiator-derived or the burst-oriented Relic Buster class, but they compensate for being mostly practical and being easy to use.
* ChargeMeter: Specializes in boosting your own Charge Bar more often than not, either using multiattack boosting skills or through using Full Arsenal or Vinland, though it's not as highly focused on filling charge bar like Samurai-derived, Mechanic, or Relic Buster. Vinland in particular gives you the ability to deal another charge attack for another two turns.
* DualWielding: Viking starts to taking hints from Chrysaor and uses the same Sub-weapon system that allows them to wield two different type of weapon with the same element at the same time in battle. However unlike Chrysaor, the sub-weapon feature and their skills functions more like Lancer-derived classes where wielding different type of supported weapon grants them other effects based on the equipped weapon type, so you don't really need to equip compatible sub weapon to get their effects. Being able to wield two supported weapon types at the same time allows Viking to reap and sow both effects without the need to worry about their weapon grids.
* HornyVikings: The Viking class dons a large
* LightningBruiser: Fighter has strong damaging power and generous multi-attack rate, allowing user to consistently deal charge attacks, while having thick enough health to not worry about being hit often, especially after you rank up to Berserker and/or Viking, which hits harder, faster, and eats up more damage than their Row III counterparts. The only thing that prevented the class for being a full on off-tank is that they have no dedicated tanking skills.
* NemeanSkinning: Both Berserkers dons a wolf pelt to cover most of their head that also doubles as a coat.
* PowerCreep: Viking's Jomsborg is basically serves as one for Feower's Avirati.
* PowerupLetdown:
** Rampage II grants user guaranteed double attack and 50% boost to triple attacks for three turns, but lowers your defense by 30%. It's generally not worth purchasing because the boost it provides can be obtained from other characters or skills, and it's also
** Ulfhedinn grants user massive buffs to attack and defenses on top of being immune to debuffs and guaranteed triple attack for four turns straight, but it cost all of user's charge bar and lock them from using other skills.
* SplashDamage: Viking's "Peerless Brawn" grants the ability to deal 2-hit damage to random foes when hitting your normal attacks. Unlike their Gladiator-derived counterpart, this effect is not cosmetic.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Djeeta forgoes the full armoured look of the Berserker and settles with a Warrior Princess-esque outfit that exposes most of her torso areas.
* WeaponOfChoice: They can wield either Sabre or Axe weapon type, or both for Viking.
* WeaponTwirling: Berserkers occassionally twirls their currently held weapon when channeling for a charge attack or opening the skill menu.

The Main Character which the player controls throughout the game. You can choose either Gran, the male protagonist (and titular character) or Djeeta, the female protagonist, (whose name is derived from Taji, the "tasy" part of Fantasy in Japanese, phonetically backwards).

They are the child of a famous skyfarer, but he disappeared in their childhood with only a letter's promise to come to Estalucia, the legendary island of the Astrals. They've been waiting for years at their childhood home of Zinkenstill, idly dreaming and waiting with best friend Vyrn for the day they meet him again. That is, until an Erste airship passing by has a sudden explosion and a blue-haired girl falls into the nearby forest...

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A-H]]
* TheAce: Gran/Djeeta start off as rookies but turn into genius fighters and unquestionably paragon leaders to a Legion of the greatest badasses in the ''Granblue'' universe.
* AChildShallLeadThem: [[spoiler: They're a teenager but are appointed the next True King after the original True King abdicates the throne in the main story quest]].
* AgeGapRomance: [[spoiler: While it's not quite a romance (on the Captains part at least), they're forced into an arranged marriage with the Golden Knight as the final decree of the True King before he abdicates the throne despite her being 28 while they're still presumably 15. Lyria comments on how strange this is]].
* AmbiguouslyGay: Outside of the series' main game, Djeeta is usually depicted as being more into women than showing interest in men. ''Versus'' for example has her aweing at other girls like Narmaya and Katarina in an overtly attracted tone. Whether this is to show that she's a lesbian or just played up for the purpose of {{Fanservice}} is unknown.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Though treated as human in the story for all intents and purposes, their categorization as "Other" (presumably for gameplay purposes due to their omnipresense in parties) has led to speculation to just how much Lyria's life link affected them.
* AnAdventurerIsYou: There are more than 20 classes available for you to pick from and master; this includes RPG staples like fighter, wizard, thief and ranger, or more extravegent picks like Valkyrie, Superstar, Asparas and ''Luchador''.
* ArmorIsUseless: Djeeta in particular doesn't wear nearly as much armor as Gran does, her outfits instead veering towards lighter wear for the sake of fanservice. None of that deters from her stats however, being the same as Gran's.
* ArrangedMarriage: [[spoiler: In chapter 155 of the main story, they end up in one with Allilah by the now former True King's order before he abidicates the throne, leaving the Captain to rule the kingdom in his stead. That said, Allilah claims it's for public image purposes]].
* ArtEvolution: The protagonists' default Fighter class artworks are re-drawn to match the updated aesthetics of ''VideoGame/GranblueFantasyRelink'', but they still retain their poses. An update on March 2019 imported said artworks to the mobile game, updating the visuals of the class.
* AssKicksYou: Part of Djeeta's multiattack animation, if the player is using the Luchador class, has her slam into the enemy ass-first.
* BadassAdorable: Both Gran and Djeeta are quite cute, and being the main character, are one of the most powerful characters in the game. You'll hear remarks about their looks from many of their companions.
* BagOfSpilling: In the ''Love Live!'' {{Crossover}} event, the captain temporarily forgot his/her swordsmanship abilities as a result of Nihilith [[HopeCrusher robbing their sense of hope]].
* BareYourMidriff: Both Gran and Djeeta get art like this at times such as their Thief outfits. Djeeta in particular gets a lot of it even for more physical classes like Warrior and Raider.
* BattleAura: As a [[ShoutOut reference]] to the Super Saiyan God SS from ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', the "Guider to the Eternal Edge" outfit will provide a flaming blue aura to the captain when the Charge bar is full.
* BeneathTheMask: Under their heroism throughout the Skydoms and earnestness to find Estalucia is deep turmoil over their dad leaving them at such a young age and desperately wanting some kind of closure or connection for this emotional scar.
* BigDamnHeroes: The Captain will enter the scene to save someone just in the nick of time in several different occasions, such as Fate Episodes where the featured character gets into danger before meeting the crew.
* BoobsAndButtPose: Djeeta's Luchador artwork is shown like this, her torso facing away barely enough to show both sides of her body.
* BoobsOfSteel: Though Djeeta’s busy size [[ZigZagged varies]] depending on the skin or class, when she’s portrayed as having larger breasts she’s still an incredibly competent fighter.
* BringIt: In Vania's Fate episode, she makes a [[CordonBleughChef nice-looking but foul-tasting]] soup, and when she asks the Captain how it tastes, one of the available responses is "Bring me the whole pot!".
* ButThouMust: The player generally isn't given many options when it comes to making choices in the game due to how linear the story is, though some instances stand out, such as the 8th anniversary story event [[spoiler: which spent a majority of the event building up to a choice the player had to make on whether they would choose life or death. Come the time to actually answer the question, the player isn't actually given the option to choose death, with Lyria lampshading that the choice to live is obvious before the option even shows up]].
* CanonIdentifier: They're frequently referred to as Captain for leading everyone in their crew. Note this specifically applies to the ''crew'', not the ship, as Rackam is indisputably in charge of the ship.
* CanonName: Gran if male and Djeeta if female. This applies to any appearances outside the main game where characters actually refer to them by name instead of just "Captain".
* CantDropTheHero: They get their own separate section in the party screen compared to regular characters. Interestingly, while human, the protagonist is counted in the "Other" race for gameplay purposes, since it would otherwise cripple any non-human party. [[spoiler:In-universe, this was somewhat explained by the fact that Sandalphon, the primarch angel Lucifer and a beast known as The Great One calls them a singularity.]] A latter update [[PlayingWith plays with]] this by allowing other characters to be used as a "skin". The skills and stats are still that of the protagonist, but the appearance, charge attack (though not the damage and effects), and any voice interactions they have with other party members changes to match another character.
* ChainmailBikini: A lot of Djeeta's class-based outfits lean towards lingerie, even though Gran comes equipped with full armor for many of them. Stand outs include Valkyrie and Spartan which are quite literally bikinis with shoulder plates.
* ChangingOfTheGuard: In the EX-2 Runeslayer Quest line, the [[NeverMessWithGranny Elderly Woman]] is revealed to be the previous Runeslayer who now [[RetiredBadass retires and settles down]]. She called upon warriors and magicians including the captain, Grea, Anne and Owen to have the magic sword choose its next wielder, and our protagonist just fits the bill.
* CharacterNameLimits: While the first time you name them can be as however long as you want (due to it being based on your Mobage account username), subsequent renames are limited to six characters.
* ChasteHero: For all the ShipTease they get, they don't often show any interest in taking any of their friendships to the next level, not even with Lyria who is clearly in love with them.
* ChickMagnet: Many female characters (such as Vira, Narmaya, and Lyria) either implicitly fall in love, or feel a great feeling of affection towards the Captain.
* ChildhoodFriends: The protagonist and Vyrn have been best friends ever since the former was still a little kid. [[spoiler:The "No Rain, No Rainbow" event expands on this with a flashback.]]
* TheChosenOne:
** [[spoiler:"What Makes The Sky Blue" reveals that they are the "singularity" upon which the fate of the world revolves around, whether it lead to salvation or ruin. The Primarchs subsequently choose to bestow their tetra-elemental power upon them, causing Shiva, Alexiel, Grimnir, and Europa to take an interest in them. It's further explained in chapter 118 that the title of "singularity" is bestowed upon whomever unites the red dragon (Vyrn) and girl in blue (Lyria). Lucilius and Belial's words also seem to indicate that there might have been other singularities in the past before, but that something about the protagonist is special, solidifying this trope even along this category.]]
** The Six Dragons sidequest reveals another title, [[spoiler:the "singular pigment", which is currently unexplained beyond the idea that they will interfere with the natural order with their mere existence and thus must be destroyed by the dragons.]]
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Like a typical gacha protagonist, the captain and Lyria will immediately interfere when they see someone harassing the other, or [[BigDamnHeroes jump in as a backup]] when the other is in a pinch. This is a trait that is very much evident in almost every Fate episode, story or collaboration event.
-->'''Rackam''': [[LampshadeHanging <Captain> and Lyria are too nice to ignore someone in need]].
* ClarkKentOutfit: Gran in his default outfit doesn't seem all that cut when you look at him. When he takes on an outfit that ditches his shirt though, he reveals himself to be ''jacked'' under that sweatshirt; just take a look at him in Luchador gear.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman: Most of their EX II class quests play out like this, as the mysterious [[NeverMessWithGranny Elderly Woman]] provides unique clothing that allows the captain to survive specific trials.
* ClothingDamage: Djeeta's "Alter Ego Conjurer" outfit shows some tears in her chest and waist areas, making her look even more deranged as a result.
* ClothingReflectsPersonality: Sometimes with classes or skins, their personality is shown to be different than what they’re usually depicted as, Chaos Ruler for example making them look more domineering in their body language as they glare from a throne with their weapons.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Even if you were to discount the debatably canon seasonals, many female characters are inexplicably attracted to them, with Lyria being among them. The protagonist, being a ChasteHero, doesn't appear to reciprocate their feelings [[ShipTease except Lyria's]], [[WillTheyOrWontThey possibly]].
%%* CoolBigSis: Given that Sara and Lily both like them a lot and admire them even. This also plays out a lot with their relationship with Yaia, who see's them as her big brother/big sister. %%could use more context
* CopeByPretending: This is sadly the way in which the Captain deals with their relationship with their Father, many characters, for both benign and malicious reasons, rightly point out that their Father ditched them and a letter is poor consolation for ''fifteen years of neglect'' but, rather than acknowledge this, the Captain goes into straight up denial and reinforces their desire to see them again, if only to get answers. This is not aided by Vyrn's SadClown tendencies and becomes the main problem of the ''No Rain, No Rainbow'' event.
* CorruptTheCutie: Doesn’t happen in any canon storyline, but some of their classes and skins show them being changed for the worst, such as both of Belial’s skins (Alter Ego and Malevolent Alter Ego) or the Tormentor class which make them look depraved and sadistic.
* DeadlyDoctor: The aptly named "Doctor" class makes them wear modern white labcoats, yet they can still fight like normal, using daggers or guns.
* DeadpanSnarker: Some of their dialogue options can cross into this, such as when Lucius requests them to prevent Lyria from going through with Ryan's suggested brother-sister role-play.
--> "Be nice, brother!"
* DemotedToExtra: [[spoiler: More so than in most other storylines, they play second fiddle (or fourth if you include Lyria and Vyrn in it) to Sandalphon in the "What Makes the Sky Blue" storyline from "Paradise Lost" onwards, as Sandalphon is treated as the central character with pretty much everything revolving around him. This is especially prominent in "Tower of Babyl" where one can even forget that the ''protagonist is there at all'' because of how little they do compared to Sandalphon and Cagliostro]].
* DisappearedDad: Their father had left their home island a while ago. They have no idea what he's up to right now.
* DivineDate: They have gotten ShipTease with numerous Primals, who are essentially the God's of the ''Granblue Fantasy'' world. Then there is their tease ridden relationship with Lyria, [[spoiler: who is implied to be connected to Astral Bahamut in some way]].
* {{Doppelganger}}: A pitch-black silhouette resembling the captain guards the apple tree in the "[[VideoGame/Persona5 Persona 5: Thievery in Blue]]" event.
* DrawSwordDrawBlood: [[spoiler:In the Kengo EX-2 class quest, the captain went into a short bloodlust, aimlessly swinging the weapon, after a broken demonic blade [[WeaponWieldsYou took control of their body]]. It took the assistance of the Elderly Woman and the Kengo outfit for the captain to regain their self.]]
* DualWielding: The Gladiator and Chrysaor classes allow you to dual-wield swords.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep:
** While early in the game's life, the voiceover just avoided addressing the player altogether (a gimmick which Lyria and Vyrn maintain to this day), later voiceover takes to having all characters address the player character as some variant of "Danchou-san", which essentially means "Captain" in a crew-captain sense, as that's their job. Japanese fans tend to refer to the character like this as a result.
** In Titanic Yeager, however, the cast from Manga/AttackOnTitan doesn't have them address the player in a variant of "Danchou", following a gimmick similar to Lyria and Vyrn.
** The primarchs, Sandalphon, and Belial all refer to the player as [[spoiler:[[TheChosenOne "Singularity"]] in light of the events in "What Makes The Sky Blue"]], which also doubles as a RedBaron since it is a title given in the prophecies.
** The Six Dragons refer to them as the "singular pigment" that interferes with the coloration of the natural order.
** The True King and his inner circle refer to them as [[spoiler:the "venerable child" for unknown reasons.]]
* TheEveryman: Grant and Djeeta are normal and well relatable heroes trying to do their best and are more leveled compared to their eccentric crewmates.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim / EvenTheGirlsWantHer: The implications of the gender limitations being removed from the game for Valentine’s and White Day events, allowing any character of any gender to try and romance the captain.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: They already know how to fight with the sword ever since the tutorial level.
* FantasyKeepsake: [[spoiler:The episodes for unlocking the Seraphic Weapons make it seem that the tetra-elemental Primarchs, Halluel, Malluel and Belial are speaking [[AllJustADream through the captain's dreams]]. But as soon as the weapon is crafted, the captain wakes up to find it in their bed.]]
* FashionableAsymmetry: Only their right arm has a full shoulder armor, the other side is merely clothing.
* FiringOneHanded: The captain always fires their equipped gun using one hand, even if those are long-barreled rifles or {{Hand Cannon}}s.
* TheGadfly: Based on their interactions with most of the characters during Halloween, they always pick trick just to see how they react with the recipient either getting very flustered or annoyed that they have to do a trick right on the spot. Outside of that, some of their dialogue choices in several free quest cutscenes and fate episodes has them tease other characters as well.
* GameFavoredGender: Gran, the male hero, is the canon protagonist, while Djeeta is relegated mostly to noncanon material like April Fool's events and the ''Grand Blues!'' yonkoma. Official art tends to [[CuttingOffTheBranches avoid this]] by depicting the two of them existing simultaneously, however.
** According to WordOfGod in a 2020 Famitsu interview, despite Djeeta appearing to be stronger than Gran in the spin-off material, they’re actually on the same power level with Djeeta only seemingly having more [[ExperiencedProtagonist skill/experience]] in order to differentiate the two protagonists from each other for fear that them being too similar would be "boring". More in-jokes are also incorporated into her character to separate her from being more of a traditional RPG protagonist like Gran, like ''Versus'' giving her powers he doesn't have like conjuring the power of the Eternals or fighting more with [[ThreeStrikeCombo rekkas]] ala a ''Street Fighter'' character.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: [[spoiler:In Chapter 124, Lyria is dragged into the Otherworld, with the captain remaining in the Skydom. Yet, their {{Synchronization}} still applies as the captain suddenly shares Lyria's physical pains. In the chapter's ScriptedBattle, you are always in the "critical health" animation even at full HP, and take plain damage akin to the Poisoned StatusEffect despite having no indicators of any status debuffs on the captain. Due to Lyria's absence following that chapter, the captain can't summon anything in the chapters that follow]].
* GenderedOutfit: While the male and female protagonists have similar themes in their outfits, Djeeta, the female protagonist, outfits tend to lean toward more feminine and fanservice-y themes in a MaleGaze kind of way while Gran’s outfits, while fanservice-y in their own way at times, take more of a "cool" looking approach. There’s also the recurring motif of BlueBoyPinkGirl between them, though at times Djeeta will be drawn wearing blue.
* GirlyBruiser: Most of the classes Djeeta can take on make no sacrifice to her cuteness and femininity, resulting in playstyles like Grappler, Kung-fu and Ogre which rely on brute strength while still having her cute as a button.
* HealingHands: Can learn healing skills from certain classes. They also use curative magic during Diantha's second Christmas line to heal her hand after she burned it baking a cake.
* TheHeart: In an extent, they're the ones that keep the group together. [[spoiler:Sandalphon exploits this in his near defeat by pushing them off the cliff in the ending of "What Makes The Sky Blue" and have them fall from the skies to make Lyria and Vyrn go on a rampage, losing control of their powers from it and possibly destroy the Phantagrande kingdoms in the process. What stopped them from going on a full rampage is that Katalina and everyone else reminds them that there is still hope.]]
* HelloInsertNameHere: The game lets you pick the name of your character. In dialogue, when your name appears in the text box, the voice acting will usually skip it altogether or call you some variant of ''danchou''/captain [[note]]Note that this is captain of the ''crew'', not captain of the ''ship'' (which would be ''kanchou''). That title presumably still belongs to Rackam, since he owns and steers the Grandcypher.[[/note]]. There is a CanonName for both the male and female protagonist but it doesn't bring anything over any other name.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Their canonical appearances are depicted using a sword and they have exclusively been using swords in the anime. In a sense of GameplayAndStoryIntegration, some ScriptedBattles of later story events will place the Captain into their initial Fighter class, whose default is a shortsword.
* HeroicBSOD:
** The final moments of chapter 118 implies this [[spoiler:when the crew finds out that the captain may have to fight their father due to their conflicting missions]]. [[spoiler:Subverted when the captain decides to go for Estalucia anyway even if they have to fight against their father]].
---> I...
** In the "Seeds of Redemption" event, the captain became depressed after learning [[spoiler:from Lecia that their father left Zinkenstill, but still managed to visit the Karm Clan and take care of Seox at one point. Imagine knowing that your parent left you just to take care of another child. Our protagonist did ''not'' take this well at first, and ran into a nearby lake for seclusion. It took some words of comfort from Vyrn for the captain to break out of this mood]].
--->'''Vyrn''': [[spoiler:Guess I'm thinking the same thing you are: why'd he leave you behind just to go take care of some other kid...]]
* HeroicBuild: Gran is the nicest person you can have the fortune of meeting, and is ''completely ripped'' to match.
* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler:In Chapter 127, the captain almost faints and collapses after a prolonged separation from Lyria, with their Life Link hanging in the balance.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWC3tGqHCZ0&index=2&list=PLdzMLfeLXi0phbK1HyLT2jUjMoP_22cCa In the prologue video for Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link]], Gran took a blow that was aimed at Lyria and fell to a DeepSleep as the attack breaks the link that Lyria has on his life to keep him alive. One of the team's main objectives is to re-establish the broken link to bring him back.]]
* HighSchoolAU: Djeeta makes an appearance in Princess Connect as a NewTransferStudent, completely outside the confines of ''GBF'''s world.
* HyperAwareness: Does pull this off at times, since they're the player character and should notice the things the player themselves notice. [[spoiler:For example, what's happening with [[Characters/GranblueFantasyDraph Izmir]] and her illness does ''not'' escape the Captain's notice, even when everyone else is enraptured by a fireworks show.]]

[[folder:I-Z]]
* IdolSinger: Along with Vira, Lyria, and Mary, Djeeta becomes one for an event. Gran's the producer, but he seems to want in on it as well.
* ImprobableUseOfAWeapon: The Luchador class starts all battles with their equipped weapon at the ready as any other class, but destroys it as part of their "brandishing" animation before their first attack, [[HeroesFightBarehanded opting to use their bare hands every time]].
* ImprobableWeaponUser: There are tons of strange and bizarre weapons they can use in combat from a ''dakimakura'' to a bowl of piping hot ''ramen'' to [[Manga/CaseClosed Conan's enhanced shoes]] (which wouldn't be strange if not for the fact that they put the shoes on their ''hands'').
* InterspeciesFriendship: The captain is very open to accepting anyone in the Grandcypher crew regardless of their race, further developing into this as each of the characters' relationship to their captain is explored by certain events.
* ItemCaddy: The Bounty Hunter class specializes in landing the [[RandomDropBooster Bounty]] debuff on enemies, and you can set the captain's class to have three skills that do nothing but increase drop rates.
* JackOfAllStats: Fully mastering a class provides permanent stat bonuses for the Captain regardless of the currently equipped class, and they also stack. They also have the most Extended Mastery Nodes which also includes Attack and Defense buffs for ''all six'' elements.
* JackOfAllTrades: Thanks to the JobSystem along with the SkillSlotSystem, the Captain can become an all-around unit. Especially with the higher tier classes which provide a free skill slot for abilities earned through leveling other classes. Nothing's stopping you from placing a Healing or Debuffing skill in an Attack-oriented class. You can also have a wide selection of Charge Attack effects depending on your equipped mainhand weapon.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: They can be played as this if the player continuously chooses their snarky or unfriendly dialogue options. That said, choosing the snarkier options doesn't really affect the gameplay, story progression, or relationships with the characters outside of eliciting a different reaction than if you would have chosen a friendlier option from the dialogue tree. As well, [[ButThouMust the protagonist will always do the right thing in the end, regardless of how you choose to portray them]].
* JobSystem: Each job class has their own unique skills and outfit that distinguish them, granting the protagonist a ton of teambuilding options.
* JustAKid: Some of the older characters you can recruit are quite skeptical at how strong the Captain can be given their age (they're fifteen years old), commonly leading to UnderestimatingBadassery sometimes. This is apparent with Vaseraga in the "Footprints on Sacred Ground" event where he's displeased with the thought of Zeta getting kids involved for their mission. Averted in the ''Detective Conan'' collaboration event where Conan and Amuro were able to deduce that they are the captain. Though it's justified because the characters in question are skilled detectives.
** Sandalphon "just a child"-zones the player on several occassions, particularly when they're not engaging in battle to save the world from destruction. Perhaps justified since Sandalphon appears to be quite young himself, he's well over 2000 years old.
* JustJokingJustification: Picking the meaner or more selfish dialogue options will often result in either the captain or the other characters assuring the person that they're speaking to that they're just kidding.
* JustForPun: The [[{{Whatevermancy}} Nekomancer]] class, which is a pun on a Necromancer combined with Cat themes, including the class description, appearance, and skills.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Two of their Katana-specialty classes, Samurai and Kengo can have Charge Bar levels beyond 100%, allowing more than a single LimitBreak on the same turn.
%%* LargeHam: Gran in the April Fools events, especially when acting as the producer of the idol group. %%&could use more context
* LostInTranslation: Gran and Djeeta's names are both in the Japanese pronunciation of the title, '''[=GRAN=]'''blue Fan'''[=TAJII=]'''. Not so much in the English pronunciation, Granblue Fantasy.
* MagicKnight: The Runeslayer EX-2 class is a master of the [[ElementalPowers tetra-elements]], yet can wield bladed weapons and is categorized under the Ninja class line.
* MagneticHero: They welcome anyone that would tag along with the crew on their adventure, be it the [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} strange ones]] or [[{{Jerkass}} rude ones]]. Among the colorful cast they recruit are primordial deities, AxCrazy blade users, the living dead, and so on.
* MarionetteMaster: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] in the case of their "[[https://gbf.wiki/images/b/b0/Alter_Ego_Conjurer_%28Gran%29.png Alter Ego Conjurer]]" outfit where Gran/Djeeta are controlled by some sinister GuardianEntity via [[RazorFloss red strings]].
* MaskedLuchador: The aptly named Tier 4 variant of the Grappler class line is a masked luchador wrestler.
* MissingMom: The protagonist's mother is never mentioned in the main story, and is only referenced during the Miscolored Memories event, [[spoiler:which turns out to be Oneiros in disguise, rather than their actual mother.]] The subject is brought up in Amira's second birthday line as she asks about their mother. Their reply is that they don't remember her too well. [[spoiler:The third arc of the main story reveals that the captain's mother came from a line of priestesses and is one of their father's allies during his journey]].
* MoralityPet: Even characters who have shown antagonistic sides (such as Sandalphon and Olivia) become friendly towards the protagonists. The former, thanks to a HeelFaceTurn now treats them as a friend, while the latter slowly opens up to them in some event scenarios.
* MrFanservice: Gran gets in on it via outfits like Luchador and Nighthound which expose his physique, but he's nowhere near the model that Djeeta is.
* MsFanservice: Djeeta provides a lot of this through her class outfits which show off a lot more skin than anything Gran gets.
* MythologyGag: In "What Makes The Sky Blue III: 000", the in-game artworks for the default Fighter class gets replaced with their updated versions from ''VideoGame/GranblueFantasyRelink''.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: In the "A Thousand Reasons" event which focuses on a melee TournamentArc, the Captain ditches their swordplay in favor of the melee-oriented Luchador class.
* NiceGuy: Outside of the main game, Gran and Djeeta are frequently depicted as kind and friendly people, and generally get along with most of their crew.
* NotAllowedToGrowUp: While this applies to nearly everyone in the game, it’s significant for them as they’re involved in most of the events in some way. No matter how time is implied to have past, they never seem to age.
* NoSenseOfDirection: He gets the party lost repeatedly on their way to ruins in episode 8 of the anime. Vyrn explains that he's always been like this and even occasionally got lost in Zinkenstill.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Some dialogue options in the other crewmembers' fate episodes allows the captain to ride along with their hijinks if you choose to do so, oftentimes to Vyrn and Lyria's surprise, like [[RhymesOnADime rapping]] on Summer J.J.'s episode.
* OfferedTheCrown: Or rather, being ascended to royalty was forced onto them after the True King abruptly abidicated the throne, announcing that the protagonist will marry his daughter and rule in his stead. They only reluctantly agree to it when realizing that ruling may help them in their quest to look for their missing aunt, father and find their way to the island of the Astrals.
* ObliviousToLove: Gran is depicted as this outside of the game, and sometimes within it when the game has scenarios that favors his presence over Djeeta's. He isn't aware of why [[ClingyJealousGirl Lyria]] gets jealous when other women come onto him or when he talks about other women in front of her.
* OffhandBackhand: In the 13th episode of the anime, Djeeta (who was busy talking to Rosetta) nonchalantly strikes an Imperial soldier in the head without even glancing in his direction.
* PaperThinDisguise: Their masked persona in "A Thousand Reasons", where everyone[[note]]except Aliza[[/note]] including the BigBad realizes that Masked Cypher is the Captain. Then you realize the said persona's sprite is the very same one they used for the Luchador class.
* PeltsOfTheBarbarian: The Berserker Class is dressed in animal hide, with a stuffed wolf head even serving as a helmet.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: If their default Fighter outfit is anything to go by, Gran and Djeeta's color motifs are commonly blue and pink respectively. This is also subtly applied in the anime's title cards - A blue outline for Gran who appears in Episodes 1 to 12, while the 13th and 14th have pink, as they feature Djeeta as the protagonist.
* PowerDyesYourHair: The "Guider to the Eternal Edge" skin changes the captain's hair color to light blue when the Charge bar is full, complete with a BattleAura. [[spoiler: In "Old Bonds", it marks the first time the protagonist "goes blue" in story, but the amount of power coursing through causes them to lose control and nearly attack Siete]].
* PowerGlows: The weapon used by the Glorybringer class will glow once it is Awakened. Its color varies depending on its element.
* PowerLimiter: They have the power to block certain magical effects like Lily's aura of cold. It's unknown why they have this power. [[spoiler:With "What Makes The Sky Blue" revealing that they are the singularity in which the world's fate revolves around, then it meant that being the singularity meant they have the capability to limit or block out the powers of someone completely. As hinted when Magisa lost her ability of future sight while being around them.]]
* ProtagonistTitle: {{Inverted}} with the game's title wherein Gran and Djeeta are derived from ''Granblue Fantasy''. "Gran" is obvious as the first syllable, while "Djeeta" is derived from reversing the last two syllables when pronounced in Japanese ("Fantasy" -> Fantaji -> Taji -> Jita -> Djeeta).
* PurelyAestheticGender: While Gran is the story favored protagonist, you can switch to playing as Djeeta however you please and the game story-wise will switch around according to the protagonist you're playing as. The only time it actually matters is with characters like Lilele and Herja who have skills that only benefit one gender which can be quickly circumvented by the aforementioned switch.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: The class Chrysaor is named after a child of Medusa and Poseidon.
* SheIsTheKing: The protagonist is referred to as the "True King" in the main story quest even if you're playing as Djeeta.
* SherlockScan: The captain is quick to deduce from a glance that [[spoiler:Catherine is Nightsmoke when she dropped her jewel during a chase in the night. Then suddenly, she is missing a jewel the next day while working as "Cathy". However, the captain kept that secret until Catherine made a deal with them and joined the Grandcypher.]]
* ShipTease: While it's usually relegated to seasonal lines, the protagonist ([[HomoeroticSubtext both of them, yes]]) gets a lot of this with their various crewmates. Some notable female examples include Vira, Anthuria, Clarisse, and Diantha. On the male end, there's Percival, Cain (in seasonal lines), Aglovale, Grimnir, and Veight.
* SignificantBirthDate: In ''Princess Connect'', Djeeta's birthday is revealed to be on March 10th, which is the same day ''Granblue Fantasy'' started service.
* SkillSlotSystem: The player can select a subskill for any of the captain's classes (one for Tier 1-3 and [=EX1=] classes and 2 subskills for Tier 4 and [=EX2=] classes), and/or one Extended Mastery Skill depending on the class line.
* SlasherSmile: When you choose to trick Beatrix in her Halloween version's Fate Episode, the narration describes the captain putting a "devilish smile on their face".
* SmokingIsCool: Djeeta is dressed like an oiran in her Bounty Hunter outfit. And her victory animation and artwork has her briefly and coolly smoking from a ''kiseru''.
* StabTheSky: They hold the weapon overhead on both hands when using the "Awaken" skill of the Swordmaster / Glorybringer classes.
* StepfordSmiler: Explored at in ''No Rain, No Rainbow''. Gran/Djeeta put the responsibilities of being the captain high and underneath their strong willed facade, they also hide [[spoiler:loneliness of having a DisappearedDad despite admiring him for his adventures and little to no memories of their MissingMom]].
-->'''Phoebe''': Holding in that kind of pain, dealing with it alone... It eats you up inside. I... I know.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: The Captain has a ''bad'' case of this, especially in the late game. They can go from defeating all ten [[WorldsBestWarrior Eternals]] on their own (lorewise), hold back [[TheOmnipotent Lucilius at his full power]] and later defeat him with Sandalphon's help, defeat Beelzebub with the help of Sandalphon and Cagliostro and can be considered a legitimate candidate for the WorldsStrongestMan. Then, in order to show off a new character or the danger the crew is in, they proceed to be unable to handle a bunch of monsters, be defeated by the vastly less powerful Loki and Fenrir, or in some cases simply be overwhelmed by a bunch of {{Mooks}} in order to be saved by the new character in question.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[spoiler: The high priestess who is revealed to be their aunt looks like an adult version of Djeeta, the female protagonist]].
* SuddenlyVoiced:
** After a fashion - in personal seasonal scenes with characters like [[Characters/GranblueFantasyPrimalCharacters Yggdrasil and Tiamat]] (who are incapable of standard speech), the Captain suddenly gains an internal monologue they possess in no other scene, so that the narration makes sense.
** If you get the bonus skins from the Japanese volumes 6 or 7 of the ''GBF'' anime or from the Djeeta DLC of ''Granblue Versus'', the Captain will be voiced in battle when they are normally silent.
* {{Synchronization}}: Lyria saves their life when a Hydra strikes them down by giving them her powers, giving the ability to summon Primal Beasts. Unfortunately, it also means that if they die, so does Lyria. Now that Lyria is playable, it also means that one of them getting knocked out of the fight also knocks out the other.
** In the 12th episode of the anime, Lyria also experiences the same kind of pain in her body when Gran becomes partially sprayed by the acidic dark matter of Leviathan.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: As a Drum Master, Gran/Djeeta has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQNKKGBARto Sanbagarasu Otoko Uta]] when certain conditions are fulfilled in battle.
* TheStoic: In the anime, Gran compared to Djeeta is a quiet yet optimistic everyman with more calm and well behaved patience, and has a introverted side as well.
* TinCanRobot: As a Mechanic, the captain is accompanied with a small metallic robot in battles. The player can choose its appearance and parts.
* TookALevelInBadass: At the end of the first part of "Home Sweet Moon", Zeta's offering comes full circle and the Captain becomes a weapon contractor. [[spoiler: This is actually an important plot point, as they are given control over Pyet-A, the most powerful Automagod at the Society's disposal, which, in combination with the conection to Lyria, disrupts Ellis' powers allowing the Society to fight back against him and Juana, and later proves powerful enough to force both of them into the defensive, allowing Isaac to take out Ellis and Gwynne to take out Juana.]]
* TrueCompanions: With Vyrn and Lyria. They've been through a lot together over the years and have the closeness to prove this. Across other works like the anime and fighting game, you almost never see the three apart.
* UndercoverAsLovers: Many Summer-themed story events and Fate Episodes have the protagonist to pretend as the lover of another Grandcypher crewmember (such as Rosetta, Ilsa and Tien to name a few), usually to drive away the unwanted attention of would-be suitors.
* VirtualPaperDoll: You have a plethora of outfits to equip them with, either from job classes or events. Anything from fantasy archetypes like berserkers to Japanese high-schoolers is free game to pick from.
* WeCanRuleTogether: In "Dancing Avengers", Wahid tries to recruit them to Ahabak when he becomes impressed by the captain's swordplay.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Discussed by Meteon in "Platinum Sky II" who wonders why seemingly mundane events often escalated whenever they are around.
* WeaponTwirling: The Berserker class will rapidly spin the currently equipped weapon when preparing a Charge Attack.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: [[spoiler:As much as Gran/Djeeta admired their father, they also harbor disappointment and frustration at how their father is never around for a majority of their life after he went to Estalucia and becomes a crux for the second half of the event, ''No Rain, No Rainbow'', as the rest of the crew members are working together to help them out of this]].
* WholeCostumeReference: Many of the outfits they get from crossover events let them dress up as characters from other franchises. They can equip Survey Corps uniforms from ''Attack on Titan'', dress as Ryu and Chun-Li from ''Street Fighter'', or dress up as '''''UsefulNotes/McDonalds workers'''''.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: Of any characters, the Captain and Lyria get the most ShipTease with each other, have been through a lot over the years and clearly deeply care for one another. It's also clear that if there was going to be an endgame couple for the franchise, they would be it. That said, they've shown no signs of taking their relationship to the next level, likely due to the need to keep the player character open to having shippy interactions with the other characters in the cast without accidentally implying that the protagonist is cheating on Lyria.
* TheWorfEffect: Despite how many journey's they have been on and how many strong enemies they've defeated, if the story calls for them to lose, they'll lose. Yes, that even means the protagonist pretending that generic thug NPC's are legitimate threats.
* WorfHadTheFlu: In the "Auld Lanxiety" event, [[spoiler:even the Captain gets affected by a negative Klesha, causing them to doubt the identities of their crewmates. This allows Zooey to consider Joya as a serious threat, as it can even affect the strongest person they have known so far. Fortunately, Bakura arrives just in time and banishes the Klesha from the captain.]]
* WorthyOpponent: Many are amazed by the captain's fighting prowess and regards them as their worthy opponent. The ten Eternals accept the Captain to be greater than them individually. Even Mordecai remarks this upon fighting them in "Duelist of Eternity".
* WreckedWeapon: As part of their cold-hearted, uncaring badass demeanor, the Chaos Ruler class' will break their own weapon as part of their victory animation.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: Their Luchador class turns the captain to masked luchadors, with Gran even gaining muscles out of nowhere.
%%* YouRemindMeOfX: In the anime, Narmaya remembers a certain someone upon looking at Gran's eyes. %%needs more context
