A charismatic but [[TheDitz not-incredibly-intelligent high-school]] football star who decided to attend Greendale after he suffered an injury that put a halt to him having a college football career. Despite seeming like a typical [[JerkJock jock]] at first, he quickly starts to show his nerdy side after he becomes best friends with Abed due to their shared love of pop culture and goofy antics.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: All of them have their quirks and attitude, but nonetheless get their job(s) well-done.

** He's horrified when Leonard's gang, the Hipsters, abandon a genuinely senile old man to take the fall for their antics in "Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples". He also thinks Jeff accidentally implying that he thinks "all black people are in prison" is going too far.

* DiagnosedByTheAudience: [[UsefulNotes/{{Autism}} Abed speaks in a flat affect, seems to understand and obsess over certain movies and shows more than the average enthusiast, has a hard time dealing with change, and struggles at times with emotional regulation and staying calm.]] All are extremely common symptoms of autism, or autism spectrum disorder, which many viewers believe Abed has.

* ItllNeverCatchOn: As an example of his business insight, he accurately predicted how big video games would be and pitched the idea to his father. Unfortunately, [[JerkAss Cornielus]] didn't listen.

** Jeff and Shirley, first established in "Social Psychology" and solidified in "Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism" (Shirley has this dynamic with all the guys, but it's most prominent with Jeff). The two trust each other with all of their secrets, and Shirley is the only member of the group Jeff isn't afraid to show the less flattering sides of his personality too.

* DumbassHasAPoint: He shows [[{{Pun}} piercing and penetrating insight]] every once in a while. Crosses over with EvenEvilHasStandards when he tells off Jeff for being a crap friend to Britta by constantly using her name as a verb for a failure to the point where it gets old and mean rather than funny.

* KavorkaMan: He's been divorced seven times. This means ''seven different women agreed to marry him in the first place''.

* HiddenBuxom: Her perky pair are initially downplayed as much as possible by having her carry books and other stuff as well as wearing cardigans.

** Not to mention his comments in [[Recap/CommunityS3E4RemedialChaosTheory Remedial Chaos Theory]] about pizza guys getting worse and worse looking, with all the good ones going into porn.

* DumbassHasAPoint: He shows [[IncrediblyLamePun piercing and penetrating insight]] every once in a while. * TeensAreShort: She is 18 at the start of the series and at 5'3" is the second-shortest member of the group. Seasons 5 and 6 play with this, in episodes where she's supposed to be more "adult" and mature have her wearing heels to appear taller, In episodes where she's "younger" and more naïve she wears flats.

* TheCutie: With her sweet motherly tone, especially during her {{Catch Phrase}}s.

** That being said, her true character is someone who is genuinely trying to be nice and good to the people around her, and she is painfully aware of and constantly keeping a handle on her deep-seated issues.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: While traces of how all the characters the audience will be familiar with are present and several of them only slightly different from how they will eventually turn out, there are notable and at times quite significant differences with all of them, especially in the {{Pilot}}:

* TheChosenOne: He's "The Truest Repairman," who was prophecized by his school to repair men as he does Air Conditioners.

** In [[Recap/CommunityS3E20DigitalEstatePlanning Digital Estate Planning]], Pierce ultimately chooses to reject his father's inheritance to allow his half-brother Gilbert Lawson to have it, as he recognizes that the amount of racist abuse he was subject to at Cornelius's hands far outweighs what he went through.
