* AmbiguousDisorder: Alia's tenacies to get distracted and wander off almost immediately, to the point of seeing and hearing everything around her, could be considered signs of autism or ADHD.

* JerkToNiceGuyPlot: Initially a free-spirited child, being bullied by his boardwalk mates about his half-bird self causes him to hide said appearance and pass off as a normal human, hoping he'd have enough power to "tear it all down". By the present day, he has become a success in New York's business world, but has simultaneously caused himself to cast away his own son for the sake of not wanting him to expose who he really is, something he completely regrets. Thanks to Arlo's love and understanding, Ansel finally becomes the nice man we knew from the past, and is now comfortable with his true self, and rekindles with Arlo.

* {{Gainaxing}}: A male variant played for FanDisservice. When Marcellus is doing a celebratory dance after Arlo liberates him from the aquarium, his erm...chests flop up and down his body. This causes FunnyBackgroundEvent as well as a ReactionShot from Bertie, who is huddled in the back seat looking anxious, showing that she's a wee bit unnerved by the display.
** Does it a couple more times throughout the series, most egregiously at the end of "The Uncondemning".

* BigBeautifulWoman: She's very big, chubby and heavyset but very pretty and beautiful.

* SceneryCensor: Largely averted whenever he's clotheless, as his alligator body does not have any serious parts; in the movie when Bertie reassure him though, his lower body is completely obscured.

* OnlySaneMan: Oftentimes the voice of reason, and the most apprehensive when anytime tries something crazy. That being said, she isn't totally immune to it, as she believed that Arlo's shed skin was a ghost in "The Shedding" without even questioning it. And in "Stay Cool", she was completely on board with taking Ansel's yacht.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He isn't that well-liked by the rest of the group. Considering his [[JerkAss personality]], it's justified.

* BSODSong: "Wash the Hurt Away" from the movie, as he laments over Ansel rejecting and disowning him.

* HeroicBSOD: Getting rejected by Ansel and being disowned by him is enough to reduce Arlo to depression until his friends help him regain hope.

** In the same song, Arlo says, "I'm hopping like a frog all around this funky bog." Becomes more sensitive once you realize there ''is'' a funky bog in the form of a {{Planimal}}.
** In the song "Back To You", Arlo says "Return me unto the place that I'm from, take me back in." Once you realize the Bog Lady is luring Arlo back to the swamp to get him to stay with her, it becomes harsher.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The movie has several hard-to-notice moments that vaguely hint at the Bog Lady's existence:
** Before Arlo starts to sing "More More More", he swings on a vine which appears out of nowhere when it didn't in the scene before; also the lily pads around his log and the weeds on the island where the turtle is sitting change their appearance and position.

* MoreThanMindControl: Implied to be this during Arlo's swamp years. Having secretly protected Arlo all his life, she lures Arlo back to the swamp by tricking him into thinking Ruff and Stucky demand ransom while holding Edmée hostage as bait, then forces Arlo to apologize until she straight-up brainwashes him into doing such. Arlo regrets himself for leaving the swamp before finally apologizing and feels sorry for losing his childhood home resulting in the Bog Lady's death in the end.

* IAteWhat: Back in the swamp, Arlo's meals were completely unordinary, and mostly had a gross diet of vines, weeds, mushrooms, bugs, and worst yet, snails.

* SkirtOverSlacks: She wears an off-white sleeveless dress over purple leggings.

* SkirtOverSlacks: Wears a pink skirt over black pants.

* BeautyMark: Has one by her left eye.

* BeautyMark: Has one on his lower left lip.

* MissingMom: Although he knows who his father is, he has no idea who or where his mom has gone. It's heavily implied near the beginning that she's no longer around.
