He manages to kill two of Nyarlathotep's top lieutenants by being so fresh out of fucks to give that he's got no concern whatsoever for whether his antics are safe or even possible. Him referring to the risen Cthulhu as "big fishy" should give some idea of how uncaring he's become of the Godwar happening all around him.

While Nyarlathotep thought he was pulling Nodens' strings and manipulating him into releasing Cthulhu, Nodens was in fact perfectly aware of the strings the whole time, and had Nyarlathotep exactly where he wanted him.
