* The series 4 finale, "Unlike Father, Unlike Son": Humphrey's father Martin visits and encourages him to quit his job, return to England and reconcile with Sally, all based on Martin's read that Humphrey is wasting his talents and that Sally's new fiancee is a loser and she's aching to get back with Humphrey. Martin even goes so far as to approach Commissioner Patterson behind Humphrey's back and ask how soon Humphrey can be let go, even if it means living the murder investigation to someone else. When the Commissioner tells Humphrey he is DisappointedInYou, Humphrey is [[TranquilFury quietly furious]], but calmly tells the Commissioner that his father must be mistaken, and Humphrey has no intention of leaving his job, or St. Marie, until the case is solved and the killer is behind bars, ''"and that is a promise."''

* In Season Two's "A Dash of Sunshine", Poole gives Doug Anderson his comeuppance after years of bullying. And Poole does it all by the book, naturally.
* In Season Three's "Death of a Detective", Humphrey Goodman manages to share the EurekaMoment with the recently-murdered Poole, who, as Humphrey said, was a good detective, and not only discovered something that led to his death, but also left behind clues and ''"in essence, solved his own murder."''
* The first episode of Season Seven has the main cast chasing after a young drug dealer. He manages to give an undercover Dwayne, Florence and J.P. the slip, while Jack is busy buying a melon from Catherine. When Jack spots the young man sneaking past, he instinctively tosses the melon at him and handcuffs him when he catches it, before he has time to think. The rest of the team have no idea how he (probably the most out-of-shape D.I. they've had so far) was able to do that.
* In the first episode of Series 10, the killer -- a popular television presenter -- humiliates Neville with a live interview about the case where he exploits Neville's various allergies. When the killer is unmasked, he says nobody will believe Neville over him... only for Neville to calmly announce that the whole of TheSummation was being [[EngineeredPublicConfession broadcast live on television]].
* In the penultimate episode of Series 12, a suspect flees to his car, is blocked by Darlene's bike, and then tries to reverse away. The team yell for Marlon, who was covering the back of the building, to intercept him... but unknown to everyone, Marlon is already sitting in the back of the car, his handcuffs ready. He looks justifiably smug about it, too. The suspect gives up.

When all leads seem to lead to dead ends, no plausible explanation in sight and the murder just seems impossible, it's something completely off-topic mentioned that gets the DI thinking and starting to piece together until eventually, it all becomes clear and the call is made to bring all the suspects together to reveal the culprit.
