[[spoiler: Diancie's increasing skill at creating diamonds as she draws closer to Xerneas and the creation of her Mega Stone reinforces the theory that Mega Stones are physical lumps of excess life energy that intermingled with the essence of other Pokémon.]]

* AdaptationalVillainy: In the games, Yveltal is a case of DarkIsNotEvil, and the destruction it causes is more a part of its life cycle than deliberate malice.

''Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction'' is the 17th movie entry in the ''Film/{{Pokemon}}'' movie franchise. It is the debut of the legendary Pokémon Diancie and the anime debut of Yveltal and Xerneas. This movie follows Ash and friends as they journey through Diamond Ore Country with Diancie looking for Xerneas. Compounding problems is the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal living up to its title. Also to appear are the new [[SuperMode Mega Evolution]]s. This movie is to appear in Japanese theaters on July 19th.

* EarlyBirdCameo: Several Mega Evolutions appear in this movie before they get to appear in the anime. [[spoiler:Mega Diancie]] in particular even appears in this movie before its official release in ''Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire''.

* NeverSayDie: Not only does Yveltal's Oblivion Wing clearly turn its targets to stone, but the attack (called "Death Wing" in Japanese) isn't named during the movie.

** NeverSayDie: This is also a more [[LighterAndSofter kid-friendly]] way of depicting Yveltal's life-draining properties, as opposed to [[VideoGame/PokemonXAndY the games]] where it's simply stated to drain the life force of its victims (with no specific description of how). Somewhat subverted, as the move is still called "Death Wing" in Japanese. [[spoiler: It's pretty much necessary in a kids' movie like this one, seeing as Yveltal saps the life out of ''lots'' of characters.]]

* DarkerAndEdgier: Yveltal's "Great Destruction" is a fairly dark theme for the series, though how this will affect the tone of the movie itself has yet to be seen.

* TakenForGranite: This is what Yveltal's Oblivion Wing does to any life caught in its blast radius, [[spoiler: such as Team Rocket]].

* BreakoutCharacter: This might be [[IntendedAudienceReaction deliberately planned]] for Ninja Riot's Greninja, which is only a minor character in this movie. Greninja is already a BreakoutCharacter in the games, and will be appearing in the fourth ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' game. Given that series' history of tying in with the ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' anime, and Greninja being voiced in PokemonSpeak, it appears that it may share characteristics with Riot's Greninja, and that ''Smash'' is working together with this movie to help the popularity of the character.
