''Splash*Star'' starts as a near-{{Expy}} of the [[FutariWaPrettyCure original series]], as Toei clearly wanted to continue the ''PrettyCure'' franchise but were concerned about how fans would receive a series that [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks did not include Nagisa and Honoka]]. Complaints from MoralGuardians had also caused many of the {{Seinen}} elements synonymous with ''PrettyCure'' to be toned down: instead of the [[GoodOldFisticuffs hard-hitting fisticuffs]] of [[FutariWaPrettyCure Black and White]], Bloom and Egret primarily used [[SphereOfPower non-contact magical attacks]], flinging [[HandBlast bolts of energy]] around and [[{{Flight}} flying all over the place]].
