ExampleAsAThesis occurs when a trope is described by giving a generic example of it first.

Instead of trying to tell you what the trope is, it starts out describing a scenario, often written either in the second person, or in the third person referring to AliceAndBob. The description takes a while to set up and execute, even a few paragraphs. It concludes with a TitleDrop before proceeding with a straight description. That straight description is the thesis.

So you've started reading the description of a trope, but instead of trying to tell you what the trope is about, it starts out describing a scenario, often written either in the second person, or in the third person referring to AliceAndBob.

This description may take a while to set up and execute, even a few paragraphs, but very soon you realize it's a hypothetical situation in which the trope is occuring. It concludes with a TitleDrop before proceeding with a straight description, and by now you realize: You've just read an ExampleAsAThesis.

ExampleAsAThesis occurs when a trope is described by giving a generic example of it, to help give tropers a better understanding of what the trope is about. Sometimes this works better than a direct thesis, especially if the trope is a complicated scenario that is not easy to find words for. But this has its own risks, too, as the trope may not necessarily be limited to ''just'' the example given as a thesis.

See also the LaconicWiki, which provides abbreviated descriptions for tropes for easier understanding, and SelfDemonstratingArticle, where the article ''itself'' is an example of its own trope.

'''Keep in mind, if it's describing the object of the trope, it's not an example, so doesn't fit.'''

The trope is named because a thesis is the opening of an essay that states the point of that essay.

If a description is rewritten (but for a good reason, not vandalism), then simply remove it from this list.

topic.

If a description is rewritten (but written with an example as the thesis and you don't feel like fixing it, list it here. This will help tropers who are in the mood to find and fix them.[[hottip:!!: If you fix one, remember to pull it off the list. And thanks for a good reason, not vandalism), then simply remove it from this list.
