Umptyscope: God is a Puerto Rican janitor in the Broadway play Steambath, iirc.

I always get a database error when trying to load the Almighty Janitor page. Not just once, but for three separate attempts over a week. Never saw the page itself. Bug or just bad luck?

Fast Eddie: Somebody saved the error message as the entry.

fleb: That's... kind of hilarious, actually. I can completely see that happening again (if we ever start outgrowing our new server digs, anyway). Someone sees The Database Hates You message pop up unexpectedly in the edit textarea, decides "screw it," and clicks Submit instead of reloading.

Prfnoff: Found a cached copy and finally restored this.

Saint Fu: Er, H.R. Haldeman wasn't the Attorney General under Nixon, he was Nixon's Chief of Staff. I've never heard any of the rest of that story before.

Fanra: I changed:

  • In Catch22, Milo Minderbinder is a mess officer-who is pretty much running the whole war by the end of the novel.
    • Another character, ex-P.F.C. Wintergreen, had devoted his life to being bumped back down to Private as often as possible.

because Milo Minderbinder was not the Almighty Janitor of the story, ex-P.F.C. Wintergreen was, for reasons I put in. Milo, represented capitalism and businesses, and didn't care at all about running things, only making money. He was not an Almighty Janitor. Notably, Milo and Wintergreen join forces at the end.

Fanra: Yes, H.R. Haldeman was Chief of Staff. The person who put that in might have meant John Mitchell, who's wife was Martha Mitchell. I'm removing the Haldeman part.

Does the janitor boss in Chrono Cross counts?

Zyada: I don't know where to put this, but I'd like to point out that the word janitor comes from the Roman god Janus, the god of doors, gates, beginnings and endings.

Freezer: Okay, seriously... someone explain to me how Groundskeeper Willie doesn't fit this trope.

Pteryx: Hong Kong Phooey doesn't seem like a straight example, if he's an example at all. (For that matter, is there a trope for what he and Inspector Gadget are?)

Cambdoranononononono: Removing Scruffy from Futurama unless someone can give an example of him displaying a great deal of competence. Or really, any amount of competence.

Lots42: I'm reminded of the librarian from Sunnydale High School, who intimidates the school principal over matters of policy...

Rogue 7: Bring back the REAL Almighty Janitor!

How about Flycatcher from the comic Fables?

Real Slim Shadowen:

  • Yet, depending on the particular adaptation, he sometimes ends up doing a fairly bad job as a reporter, by forgetting to do the Spider-Man thing and take pictures of Superman saving the day.

How many journalists take their own photos anymore? BahLEEted.
