- Fridge Brilliance: Towards the ending, the son leaves the island to swim with sea turtles. This is natural, if you assume that like his mother, the son is a human incarnate of any sea turtle. So like a sea turtle, he's born on land, but lives out his life in the ocean.
- Heartwarming Moments: The entirety of act two of the movie, after the man stops trying to leave the island when the sea turtle becomes a woman and his wife. They eventually have a son and live a peaceful, happy life as one family.
- Tear Jerker: Plenty, if you count those beautiful moments in the movie. In the end, the man and woman grow old together and one night, the man passes away in his sleep. The old woman wordlessly mourns for him, quietly stroking his now lifeless hand up until the moment she changes back into a sea turtle.
