• International Coproduction: This film is a co-production between Studio Ghibli and several French companies. The director, Michaël Dudok de Wit, is a Dutch animator based in London.
• Swan Song: While The Tale of Princess Kaguya was the last film he directed, this was the last film Isao Takahata produced, and thus, the last film he had any involvement in, before he passed away.
