Trivia / Scott Steiner

Go To

  • Breakup Breakout: With his brother Rick. Ironically during their tag team days the team was considered "Rick Steiner and his less interesting brother". Then Scott turned heel and started the Big Poppa Pump gimmick, while Rick floundered in the upper midcard and then turned heel. Rick made a pretty good face, but was a complete heat vacuum as a heel.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • His 90's solo character is like a perverted, '90s Anti-Hero version of "Superstar Billy Graham", what with going on about his physique, what a genetic marvel he is, the bleach blond hair and goatee and the poses. Considering that he used the Red Baron "Superstar" for a while before setting on "Big Poppa Pump", this is all but confirmed.
    • For a short time after the Steiners split up, and before his retirement, Rick started bleaching his goatee and took on a character very similar to Scott's. He first feuded with Scott, but quickly teamed up with him, winning the US Title while Scott was world champion.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: There is a persistent rumor that Scott Steiner got his world title push in WCW because everyone else backstage was legitimately terrified of his angry outbursts. On the same line, many of Scott's angry and profane promos towards the end of WCW were allowed because everyone, even the people running the company, were too scared of him to stop him.
  • What Could Have Been: Dusty Rhodes once pushed for Rick Steiner to win the World Title from Ric Flair at Starrcade '88 because Flair and Luger couldn't agree on a finish. Before the idea could come to fruition, Dusty was fired (WCW went through a revolving door of bookers and presidents in those days). His replacement, George Scott, decided to keep the title on Flair and brought in Ricky Steamboat for a series of matches which wound up being legendary. However think about how much different history might have been if Rick had won the title back in 1988. Would The Steiner Brothers have quickly reunited once he lost the title? Would Scott Steiner have broken out ten years sooner as a singles star in his own right? Would the Steners have gone to WWF? How much different would the tag team landscape have been without them in the 90's if one or both of them had been singles stars?
    • When The Steiner Brothers signed to WWF in late 1992, there was a pitch from the crew for Scott to be a surprise entry into the 1993 Royal Rumble, win it, and then challenge for a singles title at Wrestlemania that year. Vince McMahon wasn't entirely keen on the pitch though, and the Steiners themselves still wanted to remain a tag team.
