Calvin and Hobbes go on an archaeological expedition (digging around in the woods behind their house) and discover a set of unconventional dinosaur bones (assorted trash), which makes them dream about getting rich from their discovery.
Tropes
- Mr. Imagination: Calvin digs up an assortment of discarded trash and imagines that they're the bones of some undiscovered dinosaur, even gluing it together in a roughly-bipedal shape and thinking that he's going to be rich and famous. It's not until Calvin's mom says that it's trash that the thought even occurs to him (or Hobbes) that the dinosaur skeleton might not be real.
- Lampshade Hanging: When the duo are digging up the various 'dinosaur bones', which include objects like a glass bottle and a fork, Hobbes remarks that he didn't know that bones came in decorator colors.
