Broken Age is no exception.
Talking about this game without revealing spoilers is really hard, so I'll just say that it's full of twists and turns, with sometimes a very high HSQ.
It's an incredibly captivating game overall, with a beautiful art-style and story. The lovable lead characters (and the rest of the cast), two snarky teens named Vella and Shay, are very interesting and well-written; for what it's worth, they're also relatable, which is something really important for me.
Sometimes I even felt like I was watching a very stylized animated film.
I rarely say this about videogames, but I will miss those characters: for me, this has been one of those games that I didn't want to beat, as if I didn't want it to be over too soon.
The riddles, puzzle, paired with its witty, clever humor and dialogues are, in pure Schafer's style, the game's strongest points. Since this is a point-and-click adventure, that's huge, and the game itself is a must-play for both fans of the genre and newcomers.
I'm aware of the whole Hype Backlash / Internet Backdraft things going on, but the final product, aside from a slightly rushed ending, shouldn't be blamed for it: Broken Age is a fantastic game that definitely deserves more love, hype or not.
While it's unlikely, if there's going to be another project related to this game (a third act, a sequel, or even an animated series -it's just asking for it, anything really), I'm definitely going to be one of the most generous backers for it.
TL;DR: Great game, well-written story and characters, fantastic visuals, just play it.
VideoGame A great, captivating adventure.
I grew up with Tim Schafer's point-and-click adventures. Day Of The Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island (the first two) may very well be some of my favorite games of all time.
