A Stranger in Ponyville is a fanfic I want to like, but it's one with a lot of flaws that just make it not work. The story claims it is a crossover between My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and Chris-Chan, but it feels more like MLP:FiM and Doctor Who, especially since the character Doctor Whooves (who is explicitly stated to be The Doctor) is a major player in the fanfic. The story itself feels like a combination of the web novella A Girl Who Brought Down The World and the comic series Flashpoint as it shows Chris somehow becoming ruler of Equestria, Ponyville becoming CWCville and the only two people who can fix this are the mainstream world versions of Twilight Sparkle and the aforementioned Whooves. As well, they're aided by alternate versions of our heroes, many of them taking new looks and familiar identities. Or familiar identities if you're familiar with the fandom.
One of the things that forces the story to work is the various Chris-Chan-related memes that litter the earlier chapters. Instead of trying to wrap their head around the idea of what someone, even someone like Chris, would react when he arrives in Ponyville, the author decides to go the easier route and let Chris repeat all of his mistakes again (though, the fanfic seems to suggest that Chris wasn't trolled as much here. Indeed, though Chris is involved, there's no sign of his Electric Hedgehog Pokemon, Sonichu.) They even go with the idea that Chris would turn Ponyville into a dictatorship that would make him feel better, killing those who bear Cutie Marks. As they say in the CWCki, Chris isn't Hitler. Of course, a lot of this is explained later on.
Ultimately, what could have been a good idea for a fanfic is marred by unoriginal ideas and even more unoriginal memes.
