Not really worth it

Despite what the article may have led you to believe, it is not good. The art; fantastic. The characters and plot; horrible. The main character is 14 and has no redeeming qualities. He is a complete and utter asshole who randomly chain smokes. He also apparently grew up under a rock and has no idea what Pokemon are or what they do, which stretches disbelief too far. There's some sort of original plot going on as well, hard to tell because the pace is so massively slow. In three years the author hasn't even reached the first gym battle, although I'm told it has become better recently. There's also a real inconsistency in writing and other things, Bulbasaur is called Bulbasoid by multiple characters but Feraligatr is name dropped later on. The art though, needs to be said to be amazing. There are some attempts at humor, but it feels very forced. Also, it seems to be running off on anime canon, as opposed to game canon, which could explain a number of these problems.

All in all, great art, but bad plot, characters, humor, and update schedule. Thus, not really worth it.

Yes, "no" was the appropriate title for your review, if by "no" you meant it in terms of describing said review. The main character doesn't know how to call an attack because he's apathetic and just. doesn't. care. about Pokemon. It's understandable in a non-video game setting for a character who knows nothing of Pokemon to expect the Pokemon to fight without him telling them explicitly what to do.

Bulbasaur is called Bulbasoid BY said apathetic character, who doesn't know or care to learn the proper names of the species (he calls his Charmander "Dragon Thing" for example.) Note that every other character refers to Pokemon by their proper species names. The pacing was a problem before, but in the last few months the author has gotten better about making prompt uploads. And now it's a problem that we're including British lingo? Yes, it's just horrible for anything to have British influence. No wonder HarryPotter failed as a boo - oh wait, yeah.

If you're going to don't do something, don't listen to the above review. It's Critical Research Failure through and through.

Point by point:

Pokemon are a fundamental aspect of their world, they inflitrate every single aspect of life and people in them, imagining someone who DOESN'T know about them would be like trying to find someone who doesn't know about rain, it simply stretches willing disbelief too far.

Secondly, it is called a Bulbasoid by Kahn as well, perhaps this was to avoid trademarked names, but they openly name a Feralgatr later.

In all honesty I wouldn't have known that without looking specifically at dates. It shows promise in that case.

And the British lingo isn't a serious problem, it just seems rather randomly added at times and sticks out prominently because of it. Moreover, Kanto is based on Japan, and if any influence was to be used that would be more logical in my opinion.

I was in a bad mood and wrote a bad review, but this is still a bad webcomic. The pacing is still glacial, the main character is a chain smoking 14 year old who obviously grew up under a rock, and there's a measure of inconsistency in just general plot and everything else. But I will admit, the art is the best I've seen in any Pokemon based print, even better than the dedicated mangas. That doesn't really redeem it.

XD Do you have any idea how much this is done in American film and TV? I'm not sure how bad Japan is, but they're guilty in stuff like Code Geass, where the Brittish empire decides to always speak in perfect Japanese (aside from very occasional english that any Japanese person would understand) despite them having a history of repressing any country they conquer (the show even has this by marginalising the Japanese and yet keeps their language). Most media tends to re-set itself in the culture of the author. It's incredibly hard to do a different culture right unless you actually live there/have lived there.

(Oh and Khan only called it Bulbasoid cause Atty did. Probably trying to not draw attention to Atty's ignorance)

That really wasn't clear that that was going on, and It's hard to tell that.

Moreover, that was only a minor complaint. I don't have any problem with Britishness or anything like that, what it does come across as is rather random and inconsistent. Let's phrase it this way, I never noticed that the Harry Potter books were even set in Britain until the fourth, because it was done in a subtle and reasonable way. With this, it randomly juts out and is odd. It's just a minor complaint is all. I've also revised the review because yeah that was pretty shitty

"Pokemon are a fundamental aspect of their world, they inflitrate every single aspect of life and people in them, imagining someone who DOESN'T know about them would be like trying to find someone who doesn't know about rain, it simply stretches willing disbelief too far."

Atticus seems to have the basic concept of Pokémon down, he just doesn't know how to use them in battle. Since he lives in Pallet Town, one of the most isolated places in Kanto where the only person to have a decent amount of knowledge regarding Pokémon is insane, and probably spends most if not all his time inside I think it's plausible he wouldn't know about battling with Pokémon. It's like knowing about football but not being able to play it.

"I don't have any problem with Britishness or anything like that, what it does come across as is rather random and inconsistent."

And to a British person an American webcomic maker occasionally putting in American mannerisms seems random and inconsistent. Suck it up.

I don't know why Atticus being an asshole is such a problem; just because he's the protagonist doesn't mean he has to be a good guy. Come to Britain and you'll find a lot of teens are chain smoking assholes. I certainly find it a pleasant change from the typical generic good and/or stupid guy often used in Pokémon webcomics. If you don't like him, root for Kahn or find a different webcomic instead.

Update speed has improved, but a slow update does not a bad webcomic make.

Lastly, I think it's a little early to be complaining about the plot; so far Atticus has only reached Viridian City, fought his rival twice and a mysterious masked dude, and is now on his way to Viridian Forest. How much plot do you want for such a short span of time?

You know what the biggest complaint I have right now is. That people have jumped all over this. I don't like it. There are a bunch of problems and things that turn me off to it, and there have been three separate people jumping on me to nitpick my arguments. It's my opinion and I really don't like it.

And on one of those points, Atticus is a complete and utter asshole. It takes him half a day (or three years of updates) of being a dick to even show a remote amount of kindness to something besides himself, and he immediately subverts it.

All in all, I'm done here, and I'm sure someone will jump all over me again. If you are all so upset, make your own damn review.

You wrote a scathing review about a well loved webcomic and people jumped on you because of it. Welcome to the Internet buddy.

And I still don't get why Atty being an asshole is such a horrible thing. There are plenty of assholes in the world. Hell, in the games you have Blue and Silver, the former taking three years to mellow out and the latter of which was a total douchebag to the player and weak Pokémon for nearly the whole game. Just because a lot of people in the Poké-verse are nice doesn't mean they all are.

I wont say you're wrong to dislike it. That's your opinion. I will say being a jerk protagonist isn't ever an inherently bad thing. It just means he's an antihero.

Hi I want to tell other people how I feel about them without having others tell me how they feel about me.

Please grow up.
