Early-ish Impression

I've only read the first dozen or so stories, but here's what I think so far:

The quality varies a bunch from author to author, which is probably to be expected. Most of the authors are pretty good, and I intend to keep reading. My biggest complaint is that "Starwolf," who writes the Tennyo stories, is not a good writer at all either in terms of concept or writing style; I find their stories unreadable. Skipping everything by him/her/it/them avoids most of the problem, but it does cause a bit of feeling like I haven't read the prequel (because, of course, I haven't) and also the backstory, which I think is pretty dumb, pops up and bugs me every now and then.

The writer for Phase/Ayla is probably my favorite.

Yeah, pretty much echoing that. The writers for Jade (Babs Yerunkle) and for Ayla (Diane Castle) seem to be the best, and usually write longer entries. As for Starwolf... yeeeeeah... from character concepts (Pretty much seems like an extended Tenchi Muyo fanfic), to the content and even the tone, it's markedly lower quality than the rest. A good comparison is that while Starwolf makes even her own character's fight scenes quite boring to read, Babs can make a discussion about pipes interesting (This Troper may have some bias, as a Mechanical Engineer). Thankfully a lot of her stuff is either totally side story or gets covered by other writers, better. (So far...)

h... I agree with the person above. h... one problem is some of the writers need to do a bit of editing. maybe just run a bit of peer review before posting the stories?

Good morning. I see the assassins have failed...

A note to folks who read this: The main thing to bear in mind when reading these stories is that they're essentially un-edited. Particularly the earlier works. The quality of the individual authors tends to improve a lot over time (they've been writing these things for TEN YEARS now).

The authors that read the best of the bunch, which is to say they have the most coherent style and best consistency, would probably be (in order) Diane Castle, Babs Yerunkle, and Bek D. Corbin. They've got a better handle on pacing and grammar and so forth than the rest of the gang, and generally seem to keep the voices of the characters consistent from one story to the next.

Concept-wise, I find Starwolf's stories interesting, because he and the other authors were able to make Tennyo into a character that- on the surface- sounds like they won the superpower lottery into someone who is really blessed with suck. PTSD, alienated from her peers, massive regeneration instead of armor (hey, you survived the fight! You got all your arms and legs blown off, but it's okay, right? They grew back!), and using her powers too much will kill everyone around her, break reality, or all of the above... and her biggest fear is endless isolation, which she is constantly threatened with. All in all, a nice concept. Even if the early execution is spotty as hell.

If nothing else, I'd recommend picking up the Tennyo stories again by 7 and 8. Starwolf's had much more practice at that point, and/or help from the other authors, and it shows out quite well.
