Challenging, But Lacking in Fun

If MarbleBlast Gold is a fun and timeless classic for early 2000's computer gaming, then MarbleBlast Platinum is a meticulously crafted lump that only a very specific niche of players will enjoy.

Platinum is a MarbleBlast mod made by pro players, for pro players. Rather than introduce fresh and unique concepts, it's just more of what came before, but with harder levels and checkpoints. Now while that's not necessarily a bad thing, in fact most mods I've played are re-imaginings that keep the base mechanics the same, I find that Platinum mostly fails to do anything stand out; it's simply hard for the sake of being hard and I just don't find that very enjoyable or interesting. Combine that with a bland and "realistic" sort of graphic style that looks more and more dated while Gold's vibrant cartoon style still shines on, and you have a game mod that just does not hold water very well.

You may get some mileage out of this game if you're looking for a difficult challenge to test your skills with, but outside of that it is a niche concept that will alienate those who were casual enjoyers of the original game.
