One of my favorites in the franchise

My journey in the Aliens and Predator series started in a weird way, as I worked my way backwards from the "bad ones" to the good ones. I saw Predator 2 and Alien Resurrection long before I ever saw the originals of either. Well Resurrection wasn't that great. Anyway, Alien vs Predator came out in 2004 when I was a kid and I was immediately enraptured with it.

I'm happy to report that 20 years later, I still love it. It's a very tasteful movie I would say, as far as Versus films go. Both the Yautja and the Xenomorphs get to shine and show their strengths, power for the Predators and the surprising cunning of the Aliens. The humans are a bit generic but not wholly unlikable, I was a big fan of the Miller subplot and thought his attempts to comfort Verheiden when they're cut off from the others was a very heartwarming scene. Lex and Sebastian were great. The combined backstory of Predators coming to Earth to breed Xenos was pretty cool too, although setting up shop in Antartica, which was apparently Pseudo-Mayan civilization doesn't make much sense. Action was great, costumes were great, Scar remains one of the coolest Predators ever and this film is probably the only time in History we get to see an Alien Queen in action and it doesn't look like shit.

It's got some flaws sure. The Preds are all built like linebackers for some reason and the masks are much worse than the ones in earlier installments. It never sat right with me how Grid killed Celtic and Chopper, especially when Celtic was fighting his ass off.

But overall, I enjoyed it. It has an eternal 8/10 from me and I recommend it.
