A movie that won't let you be unhappy

Wonka is a masterpiece of an Origin Story. The comedy is perfectly on point, the characters are interesting and fun (even or perhaps especially the villains), and the music is just gorgeous. Whether it was Prodnose explaining every euphemism unnecessarily or the Chief of Police bumbling being a Corrupt Cop, I'm not certain there was a single joke that didn't get a smile or laugh out of me. Timothée Chalamet captures Wonka's whimsy imagination and the differences are easily explained as him being decades younger and still rather naive, rather than a cynical recluse. And the music! Whether it's the villainous "Sweet Tooth" the 'life sucks' "Scrub Scrub" or the cheerful "You've Never Had Chocolate Like This", it's all so fun and full of life.

By far the best is the remake of "Pure Imagination" at the end. Rather than the whimsical fantasy happiness of the original, it's reimagined as a celebratory happiness as everyone gets their happy endings (well, the heroes do).

The closest thing to a negative I can find is that Larry the comedian feels awfully superfluous to the plot as he doesn't really lend anything special to either the cast or the story itself.

Still easily one of the best movies I've seen all year, possibly the best, which would mean beating out Godzilla Minus One.
