Self Titled: BOOOOOOOORING

Here we go, what I consider the ideal Sevenfold sound. When some1 asks you what they sound like, you give them either this or Nightmare. It's got Shadows ideal singing, it's got Syn's mastery, it's got The Rev's BEAUTIFUL vocals. This album has their sound as we know them most 4. When it's not being "experimental" (country songs). Yeah this album is considered experimental, but there's not much of that seen besides the final few songs imo. But besides that, it has the band's classic sound here. I really don't get the "experimental" part of this album. It has strings and country songs, but besides that, it's just A7X at their most commercial. Which kinda conflicts with being experimental. Not that it is very much experimental.

When I first listened 2 this album, I H8ED it. It felt very annoying, and I could not understand why any1 liked the album 4 anything besides the first 2 tracks. But coming back again, besides Scream, it's not as bad as I made it out 2 be. It can be a bit generic and annoying at times, but when it bangs, it fucken bangs. One particular feat I find impressive is making what would usually be a very big and nuanced song accessible and an easier listen than usual, which, while I do commend, leaves me wanting more. Even the best songs feel like they could use a bit more in the way of something. It all feels 2 stock 4 my taste. But you know what they say, it's what it's. But "it is what it is" doesn't really apply here as well. They tried 2 make an experimental metal album that slaps, and ended up with something just a bit undercooked imo.

I really don't get the "experimental" part of this album. It has strings and country songs, but besides that, it's just A7X at their most commercial. Which kinda conflicts with being experimental. Not that it is very much experimental. Although A Little Piece of Heaven is most definitely experimental. It's kinda like a Tim Burton soundtrack. I called it "The worst Mr. Bungle song ever", and it's kinda like that I guess. It's still accessible and is a popular song from the album so there's that. I don't think it's the best thing ever, it's okay.

Flaws!! The songs on here are really really boring, as mentioned b4. I don't have much 2 say 4 the more country inspired parts, as I'm naturally opposed 2 it. Just.. I dunno man. It just feels like it was made 4 mainstream audiences, and un4tunately it's still my least favorite album. I was really hoping a re-listen wouldn't kill me as hard as it did last time, but I just felt more unimpressed than anything. Like, c'mon. They seem 2 be having fun on the songs at least. I don't h8 it as much anymore, but I still feel like it drags on 4 far 2 long sometimes.
