Prestige Tree for Super Players (Rewritten v1.3 Patch 1)

This review was published when the game was in v1.3 Patch 1 (most likely the final update, but mentioning just in case).

  • Theme: It's Prestige Tree, but rewritten. I really wouldn't say this game has a theme outside of that.
  • Gameplay and core mechanics: It's the same as Classic, but more refined: Gain points, reset for prestige points, pick between Boosters/Generators, have both later, pick between Time/Enhance/Space, have all three, go through more layers that often have active/idle choices.
  • Balancing and difficulty: Initially easy and about average speed, slowly ramps up in difficulty and slows down. Most of the early layers are just resetting and buying upgrades, though some are more active and others are more idle, and starting with the more idle layer will usually result in an easier experience. One of the challenges bases its reward on time you've spent playing the game (though not initially) and its effect get increasingly better with progress, so idling can still make a surprising difference. One of the more active row 4 layers felt rather annoying and didn't really give a feeling of progression, but I was happy when I was past that and it became automated. Grinding for row 7 definitely takes a while, but trust me, it's doable and the game expands existing layers with special-condition upgrades to keep you on your toes. Row 7's mastery challenges force you to revisit past layers and push them to the limit, which can range from trivial to slightly tough and require progression outside of them for better results. As a rule of thumb, resetting when there's a white node glow and pushing as long as there is one is a solid strategy for the most part, though you may sometimes need to grind further or try something else. Luckily, there's an in-game guide that offers useful advice for optimal setups and playstyle in every stage of the game, so you should definitely look into it if you get stuck.
  • Content on offer: Rather long, the game should take sometime between two to four days. 28 layers that are really fleshed-out and 80 achievements to earn.
  • Polish and miscellaneous additions: The game tracks the first time for layer resets, in case you want to try speedrunning. There's an option to make the game look like Classic v1.0, and the challenges aren't even an eyesore this time. Some nodes have unique patterns. Achievements have little meme images, which is rather rare as most TMT games with achievements just have flat colors. You can hold the Minus key to show various formulas. The various node glows related to upgrades and resets can be toggled.

This is one tree that I definitely learned to love. Some bits can be grindy and it definitely requires some being active to enjoy, and I wouldn't recommend playing through this before Classic and maybe a few other TMT games so you can get a feel for these games, but once you manage to do that, it'll show the effects of dev experience.
