Doesn't Hold Up Like it Probably Used To

L.A. Noire is one of the more slow-paced games that I have seen and played from Rockstar. The game was praised at the time of its release for its revolutionary motion-capture technology that allowed actors to record their lines and their character's movements in one fell, efficient swoop. And this technology was revolutionary...at the time. L.A. Noire really is deserving of the nickname "Guide Dang It!: The Game." If you don't talk to specific witnesses in a certain order and say the correct things with very little room for slip-ups, you can say goodbye to a 5 star rating. Although, this very demanding gameplay loop made the few cases where I did manage to get 5 stars in the late game in all the more satisfying. One thing I can praise the game for is its immensely good characters. All of the characters really do feel alive, which is helped by the face and body recording technology. Though this type of recording is commonly implemented these days, it can still be appreciated today for how well it was implemented for one of the first major games it was used in. The concept of this game is amazing, but it seemed to fall a tad short on execution. That's why I believe this game should be given a remake. Since Rockstar no doubt has learned the dos and don'ts of making a game like L.A. Noire after over 10 years between the game's release and now. A main issue I had with this game was how the game was so focused on such a strict gameplay loop. I know that this is a good thing for those that are really into this kind of game, but for me it got a little too tedious as I found myself having to replay parts of the game multiple times in order to get that final 4 or 5 star ending. Anyway, the game itself does have its moments, but not enough to make it the best game of 2011. And L.A. Noire's soundtrack is a killer, but not enough to elevate the game to an unforgettable experience.

I\'ve recently been replaying the VR re-release of the game, and it is pretty disappointing, both as an adaptation and as a revisit. For starters, most of LA Noire isn\'t there - the game I mean - barely half dozen cases are included from the original game. What lasted hours and hours now only takes an afternoon to finish.

The second issue is the implementation. I tried to drive a car and almost immediately threw up over the wall the moment I put my foot on the gas. The cars are utterly uncontrollable, and the effect of zooming around a world is like being trapped and blindfolded on a rollercoaster. The mysteries and interrogations are all there, but they are none of the game\'s more in-depth or portentous ones. The only benefit of the inclusion of VR is that it never stops being fun doing hat tricks, or prodding strangers in the game to try and annoy them.

Book me today! I also review weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs.
