Spy Kids 3D with more stakes

I know people is getting sick of the MCU and tbh it’s hard to blame folks given Eternals or the messiness of Love and Thunder or a good deal of the TV shows being lacklustre. But I honestly really liked this one, the Ant-Man films haven’t been my favourites I liked the first one as a breather after Ultron but the sequel felt like filler albeit with some fun action and Paul Rudd and Randall Park being delightful.

This movie I genuinely enjoyed and made me think Peyton Reed really was the perfect man to helm the Fantastic Four. It reminded me of the classic F4 comics I’ve been reading online where they go other dimensions as a family unit and while the Quantum realm and characters weren’t a patch on Guardians the cast made up for that. Jonathan Majors’ Kang was phenomenal, everything I hoped for and more. Perfect balance of chilling threat and tearful softness he’s what I want for MCU Doctor Doom. They also didn’t give him gags which was smart, they gave Gorr gags in L&T and it muddled the tone even further Michael Douglas’s Hank Pym replicating that Bug’s Life scene on Kang was great too.

My criticisms are: the awkwardness of the Cassie recasting, Kathryn Newton is great but I feel bad for Emma Fuhrmann and wish they planned it out better, the Quantum Realm wasn’t that interesting and Darren’s death was played as a gag even though it could’ve been a real heartwarming with a “You did good son” between Hank and him. Waste of Bill Murray too. Otherwise real fun.

I'm a bit surprised that the review ended up being positive after the title compared Quantumania to a not particularly good kids' movie.
