Still not sure how I feel about it even a week later

I'll preface this by saying that Brendan Fraiser was amazing. That man acted his heart out and you genuinely believed everything about his character. Same goes for Hong Chau as Liz. Two friends brought together by the pain of losing a loved one and even when Liz yells at Charlie, it's obvious how much she cares for him. He's insensitive to her concerns for his health because he wants to die and she's overprotective of him since he's all she has left of her brother. But you can feel how they genuinely love each other (platonically for obvious reasons)

On the other hand, Ellie is just completely insufferable. Yes, her father left her when she was young, but she uses it to lash out at everyone and commit multiple felonies, all while boasting about how smart she is and how she doesn't need school. Charlie might see the best in her, but no one else does, including me. Far as I'm concerned, she didn't want to help Thomas; she just wanted to use a secret he shared with her to destroy his life. After all, in that very same scene she drugged her father, threatened to kill him and threatened to call the cops and accuse Thomas of rape if Thomas didn't do what she said. That's not a helpful person, or even Tough Love. That's just petty vindictiveness.

The entire movie, especially the ending, is one big rollercoaster of emotion. While I can't say if I like the movie, I'd absolutely suggest that people see it. And be ready to cry.
