A Very Promising Show, This Is

Star Wars superfan-turned-official-storyteller at Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni returns yet again for another animated project taking place in the galaxy far, far away. Given the tremendous success of The Clone Wars and Rebels - as well as mostly-positive reception of The Bad Batch - there was no doubt that Tales of the Jedi could deliver just like those previous productions.

The premise is very simple: tell more information about the beloved characters (in this case, Ahsoka Tano, Count Dooku and Qui-Gon Jinn). As additions to the established lore, all 6 episodes do their job extremely well. Pivotal moments depicted across Tales have all the necessary gravitas and make characters' motivations clear. Ahsoka's gradual development and Dooku's descent into darkness were shown as believable occurences - most importantly, without any unnecessary sugar-coating.

However... there has to be a major issue. Many people criticize Tales of the Jedi for its relative lack of runtime compared to its peers (each episode takes roughly 12 to 15 minutes on average). And yet, Filoni proves himself to be a master of storytelling despite the reduced runtime. The "major issue" is still prevalent, though... Tales of the Jedi with its 84 minutes of total runtime as of right now can't remain to be a one-season deal. It needs to tell more stories - after all, Star Wars is known for its tremendous cast of peacekeepers... and some of them are yet to get their own dialogue or action scene (Coleman Trebor, Oppo Rancisis, Depa Billaba, Yarael Poof, Agen Kolar, etc.) And yes... a long-time staple of the mythos that is Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas needs a "Tale" of his own.

All I can say is... "You did it again, Dave Filoni! You did it again."

Total Rating: 9/10
