Things I like about Robots include the comedy. I watched the movie as a kid but since forgot everything about it. And I just rewatched it on Disney Plus. So I didn’t anticipate the jokes and slapstick and found them much funnier than I anticipated (and come to think of it much funnier than I should have).

Robin Williamss character of Fender is a show stealer but the protagonist Rodney Copperbottom is still a likeable one.

I like how despite the broken pedestals left by Tim and Bigwell, Rodney through action demonstrates the Aesop of when you fail you get back up. And how he learns the Aesop of not relying on others to solve his problems for him. And the ending to this movie is a heartwarming one.

Now, there are a few headscratchers about this movie. Like the fact that when Fender is swallowed by the Sweeper he protests, “I’m still alive” implying that Sweepers aren’t in the business of taking still living robots to the chop shop to be disposed (which is a good revelation it would be disturbing and dystopic otherwise) but that still me confused about why Fender was afraid of being swept up in the first place. It’s an annoying plot hole.

So is this film an animated masterpiece like Aladdin was? No. Is it a decent cartoon? Yes.
