Gamer fics are everywhere and more often than not are used to make the main character incredibly overpowered. Level Up! instead makes Izuku a Support Party Member, which is a fine idea. The problem comes from the fact Izuku doesn't feel like the main character of his own story. Instead, it feels more "Izuku's harem show off how incredibly amazing his quirk has made them. Oh, and Izuku's there too." Izuku's Quirk "Menu-chan" spends her time insulting/bullying him and refuses to let him take One For All, instead forcing it upon Itsuka. Notably, Izuku's player class until he was 18 was always either Crybaby or Weakling. It's not until over 20 chapters into the story we find out why and the reasoning amounts to Izuku not knowing how his Quirk worked when it first manifested and thinking it useless, and Menu-chan being unwilling to admit that she didn't know how it worked either. On the other hand, Menu-chan's snark can be rather funny at times. On the third hand, the "final battle" against All For One is.... Itsuka gives him One for All and he dies instantly. That's it.
The story could have been great but it actively chose to be bad instead.
