"Quiet Place" is proof that movies with lazy writing CAN sell like hotcakes

"A Quiet Place" is the product of movie writers who want to make money but don't want to put in so much work making a screenplay filled with dialogue and dynamic characterization.

A family who have to stay quiet in order to survive doesn't really make much of an interesting plot, even if you throw in cool scary aliens. The characters are one-dimensional - the most notable of them being "Eyebrows Girl". Eyebrows gets the most development out of them, and all she does is do really annoying Too Dumb to Live shit like break a lamp, keep her eyebrows bold and big, give that toy plane back to her brother to play with, smile all the time, neglect to trim her eyebrows, make horrible hearing aid sounds, did I mention I hate her eyebrows?

The plot holes were annoying as hell, so how come humans whispering is unacceptable to the aliens but WATER streams are okay?? And how come "Eyebrows" was the first human to have discovered the aliens don't like tinnitus sounds? The U.S. military should have gotten that kind of information from other deaf people a long time ago. And just why are the aliens even on Earth if they think it's such a horribly loud place? Why not just leave and go back to space? THERE IS NO SOUND IN SPACE!!!

Rotten Tomatoes gives this crap movie 95% right? Well I give it negative 195%

If your pet peeves are eyebrows and lazy writing, Game of Thrones season five onwards will cause your body to implode into a cascade of necrotic biomass.

Ye be warned.

I\'m pretty sure it was her brother that broke a lamp, but yeah, otherwise, she\'s just kind of a brat. Even though her mom and dad are actually pretty badass.

I\'m beginning to realize that I\'m not that enthusiastic about CGI-driven monster flicks in general. Especially ones that involve aliens with intuitively obvious weaknesses. If it was meant to be some kind of satire about military/government incompetence, then maybe it would\'ve worked, but I don\'t think it is.

The aliens CAN\'T leave, they arrived on an asteroid. Their homeworld (which presumably had sound) was destroyed and they rode the asteroid and ended up here. Maybe lazy writing isn\'t the issue here, but a lazy viewer instead

^ Wait, when did the movie explain that?

  • YAWN* Another "this movie sucked and you suck if you liked it" review.

I'm honestly tired of all the reviews complaining about Rotten Tomatoes' ratings for the movies, when the site just pulls together reviews from across the internet and tell you how many are positive. Five percent of all reviewers disliked this movie, so you're not alone- the reviewers probably just did a better job of expressing why they disliked this movie.

Except rotten tomatoes also makes a suck-up sycophantic consensus statement to support that percentage of reviews that are positive

People feeling threatened by RT will never not be funny. Also this review is hilarious, there's nitpicking about pointless stuff and then there's this.

What a great start for the day, thanks.

I knew your review wasn't worth reading the moment you called Regan "Eyebrow Girl."

The review\'s author was permabanned for blatant racism in their troper page and another review (both deleted), so it\'s no use addressing them. Just let this review fall back into irrelevance.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.
