I really wanted to like this film....

After exposure to tvtropes, you can see the reasoning here. The King of Queens wound up. One of its stars is now underemployed. The character of Doug Heffernan, fat easy-going slacker with a sports-jock past (meaning if someboy takes "fat" for "unathletic" they're in for a surprise) is still fresh in the public mind. Hey, goes the reasoning, let's use this audience goodwill and put Doug H in a new situation, one where he's still lovable slacker Doug but with a new name and a tash. Let's make big bucks here off the back of a hit TV show.

Enter Paul Blart, a Doug Heffernan who never met his Carrie. (and the female lead - well, in this movie she's no Leah Remini, but you can see what they were aiming for. Missed.)

What can you say? In some parts of Britain blart is slang word for a loud and possibly nasty noise with no actual content. This film isn't nasty - just "blart". and depressingly, it pulled in six or seven times more than it cost to make. so it suceeded in earning the bucks, enough to justify a sequel. But..... still blart, alas.

This film just missed. Falls really flat, alas.
