A worthy successor.

"The Lost Hero": The weakest of the series, but still entertaining. Leo is brilliant, though Jason and Piper are kind of boring. Riordan had 5 books to refine Percy Jackson and his signature snark, and the absence shows. Leo and Gleeson Hedge are perfect, though, especially Leo. I also like the more diverse cast.

"The Son of Neptune": Percy Jackson is back, and he is even MORE Badass than before. Frank and Hazel, far from being a drag, provide a wonderful supporting cast with their problems and insecurities, especially Hazel. When Percy Jackson is sharing the screen with two other characters, and they both grab their share of the attention, you know that they're awesome. Plus, seeing Percy's signature epic action and snarky humor again is wonderful, and his memories of his life slowly returning...so heartwarming!

"The Mark of Athena": Annabeth saves the day with guile and courage, and this is MORE fun than Percy Jackson kicking giant ass with taunts and snark. An absolute masterpiece of humor, from Leo's devastating mockery of "Twilight" fans and bad-boy characters in general, to the giant in the tutu.

"The House of Hades": Much like "The Battle of the Labyrinth", Percy and Annabeth are alone in a hostile world, and this time the environment itself is actively trying to kill them. Brilliant call-back with Bob the Titan, whose story arc is honestly the most heart-warming and heart-breaking tale that Riordan has ever told. Hazel's continued development, and Frank and Jason's discovery of their places in the world, add to another great book.

"The Blood of Olympus": Ok, let's see, Zeus is still a dick, the whole book's A Day in the Limelight for the minor cast, Nico coming to terms with his sexuality despite the culture he grew up in being ridiculously intolerant of this facet of him and the fact that he's already an outsider, Percy having PTSD and this being handled properly (seriously, the kid's basically a child soldier, the only surprising thing is he didn't try to throw his life away sooner), and Reyna's badass takedown of Orion...yup, that's all the elements for a great finish. Some criticize the anticlimax of Gaea's defeat and that of the giants, but honestly, this always was a character-driven story rather than a plot-driven one.

9/10 would read again.
