Not horrible, but just not good.

Let me start off by saying I don't think this movie deserves the title of "worst superhero movie ever". Compared to stuff like Catwoman or Ghost Rider, it's not as terrible. Still, this movie just isn't very good. There's no feel towards it that makes it interesting. The story is pretty eh, the characters are forgettable and the effects are heavily questionable at best.

The best part of this movie isn't when they have their powers. I had the most enjoyment out of watching the four plus Viktor work on creating the teleporter in the first place. There's a little glimpse during the montage of the characters eating takeout together and laughing and it's a small showing of a good moment with even Doom looking pleased. But when they get their powers, it's all over the place. I hated the way they got said abilities, because I dislike the trope where "character is so fascinated by something obviously dangerous that they must stay to examine it instead of running to safety" as it is when Reed doesn't listen to Johnny and stays to watch the green power thingies (honestly have no clue what they are). They're kept in containment until Reed escapes and goes into hiding while the other three are trained to maintain their powers with Ben being involved in several successful operations.

The cast is pretty mundane. No one stands out, because these characters don't have anything of a character arc. With the Avengers, each character gets something of a spotlight and that's when there's near eight characters to focus on. No one has a story-line individually. We get touches of it, with Sue and Johnny apparently being distant which is rarely shown, Johnny feeling that his father wants him to be someone he's not, Ben and his disdain at Reed for being the reason he's like this and I can't think of what Reed's own arc is.

Somethings are good. Sue doesn't get any scene that exists solely to show some skin like Alba did in the original, and Franklin Storm as listed on this site is a highlight. But really, the film isn't bad, it's just...ordinary. It's not the Dark Knight Trilogy or most MCU films where I'm gushing when I walk out, I'm just 'eh' about it. Even the 2006 film had a nicer feel to it.

All in all, not awful, but really not worth a rewatch.

I somewhat agree that this movie isn't atrocious as people consider it at first glance. It's extremely obvious that Executive Meddling hit this movie pretty hard, and ends up feeling like two movies that had been spliced together: one side being Josh Trank's Fantastic Four version of his previous movie, Film/Chronicle, while the other side is Fox's shoehorned bullshyt.

If you want proof of the movie's failure, this is probably the first major comic book movie in years to not rapidly get a massive amount of TV Tropes spinoff pages. When there isn't even a CMOA page five days after release... that's a really bad sign.

This movie turned out to be better than I expected... but that's mostly thanks to spoilers setting the bar rather low. It's been decribed as Cronenberg-influenced and until '1 year later' point it shows - which I actually enjoyed. Overall, I think it's an okay Sci-Fi movie, but a terrible FF adaptation.

Retloclive Executive Meddling may have actually saved this movie from being worse than it already is. Trank made one good movie. That doesn't automatically mean he can make another good one. He was largely inexperienced. Not everyone can be a Tim Burton; atrakhan You're talking nonsense. All that proves is that there are a number of persons that care that much about it. Besides, don't MCU movies have massive amounts of TV Tropes spinoff pages, hmm?

Interestingly enough, the only Avenger with an actual character arc is Tony.
