The Story We Deserved

"The Story We Never Told", written by "ker-plop", is an ominous sequel of "Digimon Adventure", in which the basic premise is that the canon show, otherwise known as "Digimon Adventure 02", is in fact a consequence of a renowned author, Takeru Takaishi, censoring the actual events which transpired to the Digi Destined. However, after some candid criticism from his wife, Takeru begins to compose the story of what actually occurred to himself, and the other Digi Destined, many years prior.

Although towering at 800000+ words, and still ongoing, the writing and structure of "The Story We Never Told" is impeccably construed and detailed. Unquestionably, ker-plop has demonstrated that he is of the highest excellence in terms of fanfic writing.

The story itself is a much darker tale than that of the canon show. Although borrowing a basic framework from the canon show, the story begins to strongly deviate from its counterpart within the second arc. Further involvement of the Dark Ocean, as well as the mysterious Dark World, suggest a more complex, however coherent plot.

Different characterizations of several of the Digi Destined, new and old, brings light to the fact that the story revolves around children facing the possibility of death at every corner. In many chapters it is seen that the chosen children are in fact, not surprisingly, imperfect human beings. Throughout the story we see that teenagers are, in actuality, hormonally wild, swearing loud mouths, spoiled brats and, particularly in one Yamato Ishida's case, resentful and jealous of those who may replace us. This provides a refreshing reminder that we in fact are reading a tale of children who must burden the weight of saving two worlds, a responsibility that the most "perfect" human adults could not begin to comprehend.

The somber storyline also provides a saddening, yet very true reality that the overwhelmingly positive exuberance of the canon show could never afford. Even as children, in all our innocence, actions will always have consequences. No matter where we hide, or how far we try to run away, in the end, we must all pay for our sins.

In summation, this incredible piece of literature is filled with our most beloved characters, epic battles, awkward teenage romance, well-timed humor and jaw-dropping moments which equate to an undeniably AMAZING read.
