Great Story...

Brahman is fairly standalone as a story in the Assassin's Creed franchise. The Assassins and the Templars are just in the background. The main characters, Jot Soora and Monima Das are ordinary people living the life of the middle-class in the 21st Century. The tensions in the story, their relationship however is pretty believable, namely the issue of class, the whole "dating-a-celebrity" thing and career resentment. The Brahman VR thing is a science fiction device, a McGuffin that manages to have meaning because how it deals with their past and present.

If there's a problem with this story its that it's the only time that the present-day story has proven to be more interesting and better than the past story. The historical section in Amritsar has amazing art-work and Arbaaz Miir is entertaining in a Kashmiri-Ezio kind of way but its a pretty boring palace intrigue, which also doesn't give enough credit to the really interesting figure of Ranjitsingh. It's only value is as world-building rather than a real story. About the only thing keeping it interesting is the shuffling of time and perspectives. The present day story's richly detailed, wonderfully drawn and it features modern-day assassins that you actually wouldn't mind playing as.

The end is wonderfully tragic and haunting as well. The mythology of the Kohinoor was amazing, especially for an Indian who knows the story from childhood.
