A decent fanfic ruined by dated humor and vulgarity

I want to enjoy this series, but I find it difficult. The dramatic stuff is nice, but the humor (that didn't exist in the original IE the Chaotix antics with hooking up Tails and Cosmo) wasn't that good. Memes that were funny several years ago aren't funny now. The "Meet the Heavy" dialogue was painful to read, as is "whazzup?", "Where there's smoke they pinch back" and "Imma firing my lazor". But, the Leeroy Jenkins joke was Actually Pretty Funny. Similarly, when Chris recites the dialogue from The Dark Knight‎, I wished that a lampshade was hung in the form of one of the characters noticing a cue card of that quote and similar quotes from other movies fall from Chris's pocket and said character asks him, "You Wanna Get Sued?". Also, while this fanfic came before Sonic F‎, it might have been nice to hear "Completely Original Concept" when Tsali notices Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Super Eric and calls what they are doing a ripoff of Dragon Ball Z‎.

Another thing that kind of bothers me is the profanity. I know that this is rated M, and (as much as I dislike it) I don't mind Eric, Sonia, and the members of the demon empire swearing, but I just feel like the core characters from the earlier seasons DON'T SWEAR, except for maybe infrequent mild profanity like "Damn" (4kids uncut subs). It just feels out of character for them to swear.

Like a couple people said, there's a large number of foxes and transformations. It's hard to keep up with all the different characters and their species. Why is Maladict (the Devil) a hedgehog? How can Eric know Shadow if Chris didn't know Eric? Also, many characters who were important in the original series don't seem as important now. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the readers forgot that some characters were even on board the Blue Typhoon.

The religious symbolism in this story is odd. From what little the readers know from at least chapter 13 about the Angels and Demons in the story makes the Demons seem more likable than the Angels... What about the way that this story twists the scriptures... "The wages of sin is death" indeed.

Basically, it's impossible to fully enjoy this story the way it should be. Without the sexual and religious content, it would be much better.
