Well, Optimus does admit that he was wrong in taking the Allspark away from Cybertron. Not sure how that helps the discussion, though.

Yeah, I only found that out after posting that. The mistake actually getting aknowledged in-universe would change the trope to Villain Has a Point, though it still doesn't explain why omega supreme sided with optimus.
We should probably add Strawman Has a Point regarding Megatron's and Optimus' conflict over the Allspark, as well as what megatron does afterwards. I mean let's imagine that the Ghostapo found a Public Domain Artifact and tried to use it to brainwash all allied soldiers, but then the Allies destroy the artifact first, despite knowing full well that this would irreprably damage Earth's biosphere and destroy all of humanity's sources of food, forcing those left to resort to cannibalism. That's pretty much exactly what happened in this show, the only difference being that Megatron has the technology to use the "food" to fuel a Homeworld Evacuation instead. When Megatron says that those sacraficed in the short run will enable magnitudes more to survive down the line, he's totally right; he only actually goes wrong here when he decides to use the ship to seek petty revenge instead. Being brainwashed into Nazism is a horrible fate, sure, but starving and resorting to cannibalism due to an Apocalypse How wiping out all food is one of the few that I'd consider worse. If anything, Omega Supreme should've sided with Megatron.
