I think you can all of them, Hydrapple you have to wait until a month as pass, which will be the 15th.
The reason I pointed this out was that when someone added a good section of ensemble dark horse eon hydrapple, it got removed as the month had not passed yet. Not that it was bad.
That is fair. Once the month’s passed, let me know or, anyone else can add Hydrapple after month passed if they want.
Hello! :3So on the Fan-Disliked Explanation part. Do people truly hate the explanation? I don't have an issue with it. Plus that fits the whole paradox Pokemon theme, you don't know which is true or not. Plus Terapagos being connected to the paradox Pokemon was going to happen. So seems a little ridiculous to get mad over that connection and possibility?
Hide / Show RepliesIt does say only some fans were upset, but yeah I haven't seen much vitriol over it. Also, being from alternate timelines does not exclude the Paradox Pokemon from being descendants or ancestors of the pokemon that resemble, they just wouldn't be the descendants or ancestors of the ones in the timeline of the game we play in.
So it could be cleaned up a bit, but given I'm sure there are fans angry over it and it is YMMV I'm not sure if it should be outright removed.
Edited by PerentieYeah having it say some fans were upset makes more sense and helps show that not everyone hates it, Making it far. Thanks for understanding my concern.
Would Ogerpon count as that one boss fight. Given you have to face it four times consectively in Titan Pokemon style battle? Sound tough.
Isn’t Geeta having it out for Larry just baseless fanon at this point? The only even mildly negative interaction that is indicated is her docking his pay if he talks too much. Beyond that we have her actually demanding he take more time off work, indicating he works so much by choice, and him remarking on how he's grown as a person thanks to her (not that he would admit it to her). It seems like its some of the other gym leaders that have more of an issue with Geeta, and even then it's personality conflicts more than being treated poorly.
Hide / Show RepliesYeah, it's fanon. it shouldn't be there
Have you never before supped upon Pined Cone?Part of it seems to stem from her reactions when discussing specific leaders after the evaluation rematches. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Larry the only one Geeta shakes her head over? Some of the quotes come off to me as being more positive or negative from leader to leader, or at the very least she shows more enthusiasm regarding certain ones like Kofu or Tulip.
There's this video showing her range of reactions, but it doesn't show all eight.
Edited by compactwaveI recall that being mentioned and tested it when I played through the game, and I didn't notice any difference if I mentioned Larry. Maybe the reactions are dependent on some other factor? Moreover, Geeta denies Nemona using his battle arena if it is suggested because she's worried it would bother/inconvenience him, which would be odd if she had it out for him.
Edited by PerentieBulbapedia says the quotes are always the same regardless of question, but I'm not sure what any factors regarding visual reactions might be, if there are any differences. For all three Larry selections in this video, Geeta shook her head.
You've got a point about the deal with the Treasure Eatery - she's going out of her way not to inconvenience him there. And like what you said before regarding evidence against a bad relationship, Larry mentions after his gym rematch that Geeta wanted him to try cut back on the overtime hours.
I'm feeling a bit lost now. When I first wrote that entry up, I included the parts about Larry because they related to the narrative and in-universe actions - calling it fanon is completely justifiable, although it seems like a lot of people perceived this stuff as a subtle implication rather than pure theory (if I'm wording that right).
Since this is a discussion about rewriting her entry, I'm gonna bring up the Anti-Climax Boss thing someone else added because it's based on IRL perception rather than narrative and the other criteria for a Scrappy. While Geeta's widely regarded as the worst Champion from a difficulty/technical perspective, she's anything but weak in-universe in the eyes of numerous characters. I really don't know what the stance on an Informed Attribute is when determining Scrappy classification.
I know that we're still just under two months off before we can even consider adding Broken Base and Scrappy entries pertaining to SV, but there's something I've wanted to ask in advance.
Does Geeta have fans? It's obvious that she's not exactly popular - if people aren't fond of her design or the godawful battles, she's also hated for being a fucking boring character and the implication that she's a shitty boss towards Larry.
I honestly have no idea if it's just a case of a vocal hatedom or whatever because almost everywhere I look it's the community talking about how she's the worst Champion - but if Geeta's popular enough to classify as a Base-Breaking Character at best, then I don't know what people like about her - and you need to list positive aspects to counter the negative ones when writing up a BBC entry.
Hide / Show RepliesNow that the restriction has passed, I'd say that it can be used both in-universe and out-universe
I hate all of you with a passionWhy was "Obvious Beta" removed from the YMMV section? I get not putting it on the main page but these games are clearly unfinished and needed several more months of beta testing before they were released.
Hide / Show RepliesRead the bold text at the very start of Obvious Beta. To prevent complaining the trope is only for especially extreme examples that contain so many Game Breaking Bugs that they are completely unplayable. Meanwhile I and many others having enjoyed the game, as the glitches don't effect the gameplay themselves so much as causing graphical weirdness.
Edited by AlmightyKingPrawn She/her. Profile pic is by Richard Michael Gomez @StarmansArt. Please watch Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock. https://youtu.be/Vm92JNgPbqkHence why the trope belongs on YMMV, which is for subjective opinions, rather than the main page
Obvious Beta is not YMMV so doesn't belong there regardless of if it applies.
If it should be YMMV is a good discussion the example raised but this isn't the place to debate it.
Obvious Beta was made YMMV and had its definition expanded, so it might be added back in the future.
Edit: Oh, right, I probably should have mentioned that it was decided in this thread. Apologies for going half a month without clarifying how/where this was decided.
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. In light of the embargo on Ensemble Dark Horse examples lifting tomorrow, should we stick to putting them on the series' page rather than this one considering it's been done for several tropes such as Memetic Mutation?
Can Iono count as Narm Charm? Given that she's an Affectionate Parody of streamers, I've watched streamers having fun with all the typical streamer stuff (smash that subscribe button, how the battle is seen as a collab), cringing at her for those exact same reasons, or both, like it's the right kind of enjoyable cringe.
It kinda strikes me as odd that Even Better Sequel isn't under No Recent Examples, Please!. With that in mind, the consensus I'm seeing from fans is that SV are an Even Better Sequel to Pokémon Sword and Shield (even despite the bugs and glitches), as SwSh were not only criticized for those but also for its gameplay and animations. Almost nobody I've seen has claimed that SwSh are better than SV, and while the Metacritic score is lower, there's . Given that, would SV qualify for the trope?
That said, they're shaping up to be a Contested Sequel to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which got just as much praise for its game design but ran much better (if still not great), though we'll only know 6 months from now whether it counts.
Edited by 2HeadedMoonOctopusCould Larry count as an Ensemble Dark Horse? I've seen quite a bit of praise for him, despite (and/or because) he's such an everyman, he's got a dour attitude, and he doubles as both a Gym Leader and Elite Four. He's my favourite at least, but I'm not sure what would make him count as an Ensemble Dark Horse.
Hide / Show RepliesIt’s a case of being generic yet charming at the same time, since he’s a generic everyman that hold not one, but two important jobs, with a Com Mon as his Terastal ace (Staraptor, a popular one) for Normal gym and kept it for Elite Four match. Helps he uses Dudunsparce, new evolution of Dunsparce that is basically bigger Dunsparce.
That made him stood out in a different way, among his fellow Gym Leaders AND Elite Four who already are distinct characters.
Hello! :3I want to mention something about the numerous players who have reported getting headaches or starting to feel ill from the game's harsh graphical glitches, but I'm not sure if those things can apply to Nausea Fuel so I want to ask here if it's ok to add them before I go ahead and do so.
Hide / Show RepliesAt least from how I'm understanding it glitches wouldn't count since it's not a result of the game experience as it's meant to be played.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Do you know of any other tropes that it'd suit better? Sensory Abuse is only for intentional examples, and I'm still on the lookout for any other works that mention visual glitches known for being painful for certain audiences.
The page's Special Effects Failure section discusses the other glitches, but mentioning the side effects they've had might be too irrelevant to the trope IMO.
Where do examples of "mistaken for glitch" go? Things like Mela's Silly Walk and Jigglypuff flying away in strong winds have apparently been reported as bugs even though they really aren't.
So uh, would Bisharp’s evolution Kingambit fit into Unexpected Character? Even after the leak surrounding SV, no one saw of the possibility of Bisharp of all Pokémon getting an evolution coming. Heck, no one saw the possibility of traditional cross-gen evo in an odd-numbered generation at all, with Gen 3 only introducing two new pre-evos (Wynaut and Azurill).
This also makes Bisharp the first Gen V Pokémon to get a new traditional cross-gen evolution, since Runerigus and Basculegion evolved from regional variants - fair with Runerigus for sure, inexcusable in Basculegion’s case - especially back then, Gen 5 did not introduced any cross-gen relatives of evolution lines.
Hello! :3Hoo boy, there's gonna be a lot of They Changed It, So It Sucks, Scrappy Mechanic, and Special Effects Failure (coming off from what reviews and leaks have mentioned).
Brace yourselves.
Hide / Show RepliesScrappy Mechanic examples already go on a separate page — ScrappyMechanic.Pokemon.
Cyclizar possibly being a shared pre-evolution to the Box Legendaries or related some other way seems like a common enough theory to acknowledge under Epileptic Trees
Say, now we have seen a standard Girafarig evolving into Farigiraf (a new cross-gen evo), maybe it’s good to add that for YMMV « Unexpected Character » (considering we’re getting more traditional cross-gen evos after Legends Arceus give us Kleavor, Wyrdeer and Ursaluna) or even « I Knew It » for Trivia (possibility of more traditional cross-gen evos after the return of the concept).
Hello! :3Just suggesting this, but maybe add in that Armarouge and Ceruledge are being compared to Mega Man Battle Network characters in Memetic Mutation or whatever.
I think Grafaiai gets Unfortunate Character Design for the whole middle finger thing it's got going on.
An example for Fan Nickname, "Pooper" for Wooper's Paldean variant took over the internet almost instantly the moment it was introduced.
RLLIs the Viewer Gender Confusion surrounding Grusha worth mentioning?
Hide / Show RepliesI would say so. I thought he was a woman at first and he still looks like one even knowing he's a guy.
Yeah, I definitely think it should be added.
Have you never before supped upon Pined Cone?Do you think Smoliv and Lechonk's names qualify as Were Still Relevant Dammit
Nyaa! Hide / Show RepliesI could see a case with Smoliv, but Lechonk mostly comes from Lechón (piggy) and Chonk, which is generic enough to not fall under trying to be hip and modern (even if it's been used as a meme in recent times much more)
chuck lorre vanity cardI have seen some jokes about how koraidon runs in all fours despite its design having wheel-shaped appendages, and how it contrast with Miraidon, that works like a motorcycle and does not shake its rider when it runs.
Hide / Show RepliesKoraidon running in spite of having those wheel-shaped "air sacks" does feel bit Narm-y in the sense that there is a clear motif going on but they refusing to commit to it, but I don't want to bother mods about it in case it doesn't count or no pre-release stuff.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!I think they could be addressed under WTH, Costuming Department? (or a similar trope), since it's something built so well into the design, but they're not used on the running animation at all. Even the official site comments on "It may look like a motorcycle, but it uses its powerful legs to run on all fours.", which is really odd that this of all things is intentional? https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-gb/news/legendary_pokemon/
Either way it's a pretty weird choice that's drawn many negative reactions
Edited by Kirb-Star chuck lorre vanity cardDoes anyone know where this edit request thread for this YMMV page is?
I know this page is locked but I've seen a lot of memes about Turo being a reference to the Giga Chad meme.
I've also been seeing memes comparing the duck to not only Donald, but even Dewey Duck from Ducktales.
Would it now be a good time to add Unexpected Character regarding the new cross-gen evolutions, since Legends: Arceus kept that YMMV Audience Reaction? Or at least, some standouts.
- Girafarig into Farigiraf, since it’s a Johto-related evoluton that is Normal / Psychic that came after Legends: Arceus where Stantler, another Johto Pokémon, can evolve into another Normal / Psychic in Wyrdeer.
- Bisharp into Kingambit, considering that Bisharp was already an OU staple among Smogoners and is already solid in-game.
- Applin into Dipplin, since the thought of Gen 8 Pokémon receiving a traditional cross-gen evolution this soon isn’t what many expected at all. Same goes for Duraludon below.
- And then Dipplin into Hydrapplin, the only time a branched evo can evolve further discounting regional forms.
- Duraludon into Archaludon, since 535 BST alone makes many think Duraludon is very unlikely to get one, but here we are. Archaludon having 600 BST, a specific number normally reserved for Legendary, Mythical and Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon is another unexpected thing on it’s own.
