Post-launch, the general consensus I see is a preference for them to be outright playable characters rather than assist characters. That said, they were indeed well received.
Edited by AM_NKSo The Scrappy entry for Nitara was removed because she fails the criteria of "hated for narrative reasons", otherwise she qualifies for everything else (her bad performance and her mediocre gameplay). What sounds to be the consensus on Nitara's narrative participation? Because I don't see many folks who actively say they like her story, and for the most part I feel like the consensus is that "she's there," which ties into how distractingly bad her voicework is.
Thanks for playing King's Quest V!Breaking down this Unintentionally Unsympathetic entry a bit...
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Sindel, while returning to her roots as a heroic character and infinitely better in portrayal than the previous game, many moments in the story and in-game dialogue have people divided. Her treatment of Mileena is sad and unpleasant, especially how she blames her daughter for contracting Tarkat despite the disease being something completely out of her control and has Kitana take Mileena's place in the tournament purely out of speculation that symptoms of her disease manifested at the banquet, despite nearly every case of her transforming being due to in-the-moment aggression or stress, not to mention how she remained in human form while fighting Ermac despite being thrown around several times, making it look like Sindel can't trust her 10,000 year old daughter to fight without succumbing to heat in the moment. While it's true that Liu Kang technically broke his word by sending his champions into Outworld unannounced, Sindel immediately sides with General Shao and Shang Tsung's version of events despite knowing Liu Kang far longer and understanding his desire for peace. And while it's perfectly understandable that she would blame Li Mei for Jerrod's death due to her leading the Umgadi at the time, Sindel's constant need to scream out Li Mei's name in anger or spite comes off as annoying and petty, even annoying the Yo Video Games crew to the point where they sympathised more with Li Mei's plight than hers.
1) Gotta remove that Yo Video Games reference; that's a really gratuitous reference that doesn't really add anything to the point to anyone who doesn't know who they are.
2) I don't even think this is Sindel being unintentionally unsympathetic — I think the point of the narrative is that she is in fact still flawed despite overall being a good person. Sindel still cares for Mileena, but her admonishing her daughter for catching a deadly disease isn't really played as her being on the right side of the argument to begin with, it runs off more just Anger Born of Worry and general paranoia. As for her handling of Liu Kang's entourage in Outworld and Li Mei, it seems like they're meant to be decisions that we understand, but not necessarily agree with — the narrative provides reasonable logic, but doesn't posture Sindel as being fully reasonable in her handling of her decisions, and thus narratively, we aren't meant to fully sympathize with her in it to begin with.
Thanks for playing King's Quest V!Seeing the history for mentioning the Porting Disaster (which is not allowed to be placed as a trope for No Recent Examplesplease rules until March 19, 2024), I am not suprised the Switch already reached it limits as we knew it went wrong and regret, the same price as the PS5, Series X/S and PC for $70 each.
For the porters (Shiver Entertainment (same as MK11) and Saber Interactive) trying to patch the performance, good luck as the game is already hard enough to optimize for the Switch.

Are people genuinely worried about Kameo Fighters? I don’t mind the concept, but I wonder if it fits under Tainted by Preview.
The Kameo Fighters possibly being able to do their own Fatality and having more than one move does allows for mix-and-match combitnations.
