I have to disagree with the YMMV entry: Stupid Sacrifice. There were no parachutes on board (or so I've heard) and I somewhat doubt the bomber planes were designed to land safely. Besides, even if they were, Steve might not've had enough time to get to a bomber plane before the carrier crashed. And Steve is not a pilot.
