Could this really count as Adaptation Displacement? The movie is significant in its own right but the book is still required reading for many college and high school courses. If anything, those who haven't heard of Heart Of Darkness may likely have never heard of the film either, regardless of the film's status in the film world.

I have an issue with this entry:

  • Misaimed Fandom: The helicopter attack scene. Use of the Wagner music was actually intended to invoke The Birth of a Nation. But what did Coppola expect, using such Awesome Music?

A couple of things: first, Francis Ford Coppola did not write Apocalypse Now; while he touched up the script and rewrote the ending, the original writer was John Milius. As such, pretty much everything in the movie (save the ending) was the product of Milius' original story, including the choice of music during the helicopter attack scene. I've looked at interview after interview, and have never seen this confirmed. It may very well be a case of misaimed fandom, but unless anyone can confirm that it was indeed meant to evoke The Birth of Nation, it needs to be touched up. I'll let it be for the time being.
