Yeah, considering the primary demographic of the movie, I don't think the creators meant to imply that Queen Novo was trying to kill them. That would be too dark. Exile seems to be the intended punishment.
Agreed. The whole scene played to me like Queen Novo metaphorically tossing the Mane Cast out the door and slamming it shut, not her trying to kill them.
About the Jerk with a Heart of Gold entry, what was it that made Queen Novo a jerk again?
Hide / Show RepliesNothing, as far as I can see. She was a ruler who chose to put the needs of her subjects ahead of those of outsiders. Which is kind of her job. And it seemed like Pinkie Pie's antics were softening even that position before Twilight screwed things up.
Edited by EmptybeeThe following example has been Edit Warred over:
- Never Say "Die": HUGELY averted. Unlike the show it was based on (and since this is a Big Damn Movie), there are examples of death; two instances of an on-screen death is that of the Beware the Nice Ones information above, and the Storm King, who was turned to stone and crushed to death by Tempest. An example of a near-death experience was when Twilight made her Heroic Sacrifice by destroying the Storm King's staff.
Does this belong here?
Hide / Show RepliesNever Say "Die" is generally when death is given a euphemism like 'vaporized' or 'gotten rid of', not an aversion to onscreen death in general.
The Protomen enhanced my life.First off, the "example" refers to another trope, which is a no-no from the start (examples are to be written so they can stand on their own without having the reader to mouse over to another trope)
Next, as lalalei and I pointed out, Never Say "Die" is a dialogue trope where people don't flat out say a person "died" or "is dead" and instead use euphemisms. This entry is definitely not an example, and I fail to see why it had to be pulled to discussion.
Now, the direct course of action Ferot_Dreadnaught would have taken was to indeed bring this entry to the discussion tab here after KeylonRocks7356 readded it without edit reason, or report to ATT, but other tropers have mentioned interference from a troll. I think the mods jumped the gun on them too early.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainI will give this 3 days more. If nobody will object by then, the trope will be removed.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainAside from "aversions are not notable" in general, yeah, this is misuse of Never Say "Die".
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I agree with Larkmarn in regards to Never Say "Die": it's a complete misuse of the trope.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I concur, none of the examples given match up with the Never Say "Die" trope.
Especially since the examples are touted as aversions. Aversions need to be very notable to be mentioned; if the trope is misused in the first place, an aversion is even more unlikely to apply.
I would consider deleting the Disproportionate Retribution entry, because I don’t think Queen Novo purposefully tried to drown the Mane Six and Spike. After Twilight was caught trying to steal the pearl, one minute she shines her pearl on them, and the next thing they know, they’re at a beach just on the other side of Mount Aris. Yes, they were gasping for air when rose from the water, but at least they were close to shore that time, right?
